Why do people host home games? (1 Viewer)

To keep out the nits.
This.

1. The line up is dictated by invite only and is almost always better than any line up you will get in the casino (unless the casino game is an invite only for the initial line up).

2. Plus, the players are able to play up to their net worth instead of what cash they are able to bring to the casino so the action level is much much better. I rarely go to the casino any more unless I am being invited to a semi private game.

3. You can’t even eat at the poker table in a casino anymore. Sucks.

Stakes.
Can’t play .25/.50 in a casino.
I have to be prepared to fire at least 3 bullets to play NLHE properly. At the casino 3 bullets is like a grand. I’m not looking to blow a grand ever.
I’ve lost close to a grand in .25/.50 game. I should probably sign up for a training website.

Cough...cough... I'm pretty sure that would be the "- 2k BB club" lol. I joined the minus 1k BB club a couple weeks ago at a meet up but fought back close to even the next day. The minus 1k BB club should be a badge of Donkey Honor! Lmao
That would probably get expensive at casino stakes.

I think casinos are great for tournaments. You know what the fixed rake is at the beginning, and you only tip at the end if you win. But for cash games? I’d like to see somebody’s math or statistics. I’d think that over a decent session, you’re loosing a full buy-in to rake and tips.

I've actually seen a hot dog roller at The Silverado in Deadwood. ;)
I believe the Carson Nugget in Carson City also had a hot dog roller next to the soda machines (in the poker room, not on the floor for the masses to sneeze on). Unfortunately, I was not big into taking snapshots back then, so I cannot confirm.

Hosting, beyond controlling the stakes and rules, aims at playing with people you like, which will never be totally possible, but still better than being seated among strangers.

Also, depending on culture, hosting can be very flattering.
