Hi PCF Family,

My next project / plan is to do a commemorate family micro cash set.

It will primarily be use for
- 10/20c stake Poker
- 50c/$1 Tai Mahjong

But I keep thinking back and fore over choosing which denomination progression (DP) thou.

I need some advice on deciding among one of the options and especially from those who also own a similar cash breakdown.

A little background of the set #. It will be a 400-chips set with 100/140/120/40 breakdown.

Option 1
10c - 50c - $2 - $10

This is my very first initial thought for the cash breakdown.
It is also the most common DP that I seem PCFers used for their 10/20c micro cash set.

Option 2
10c - 50c - $2,50 - $10

Usually my family played with $1/$5/$25/$100 using 0.1 cash to chip multiplier.
So, this Option will be a more user friendly to them as it used the $2,50 instead.

Option 3
10c - 50c - $1 - $5 + *Potentially adding $20 Plaque*

Another potential option making uses of the more familiar $1/$5 progression.
This is also the DP that I used for my very first Micro Cash set.

Option 4
Non denominated set

I highly doubt I will do a non-denominated set, but I seem weirder stuff and (maybe?) I can be convinced.

Many Thanks.

10c/50c/$2/$10
Advantage - Normal ratio of chip progression
Disadvantage - Every chip is a non standard denomination

10c/50c/$1/$5
Advantage - Mixes popular denoms with less standard ones. $1s and $5s are norm, and you need less 10c and 50c than you would 5c and 25c
Disadvantage - Redundants chips with $1 being double 50c

I wouldn't do $2.50, it's just awkward for a chip.

Hey @LeLe

Voted ✅ #3 with plaques.

Because playing micro isn’t that fun with general poker, but if you add fun things, it turns up the volume.

Plaques, funny rules, wild cards, etc

I understand the whole "rule of 4 to 5 x increase" but these are my absolute favorite stakes! I run $40 buy in $.10/$.20 so 200 BB.

While I get the whole $2k chip makes more sense... a $2 chip is the better gap and more efficient... every set I have played that has those odd denoms people get weird and un easy...

Personally "if it ain't broke don't fix it!"

$.10, $.50, $1, $5, $20 works well... it runs well and everyone is used to the denoms! You can go wrong keeping it simple/normal.

BCC FOC $.10/$.20 2 table ready!

Artichoke Joe's $.10/$.20 but also can run $.05/$.10 ran at another meet up. Unfortunately this set uses a $4 chip because $5s are extremely rare and I could get the $4s.

Again just my 2 cents... but I would keep the set with standard denoms.

Good Luck @LeLe Looking forward to what you come up with!

Option #1 or #2. I vote for #2 because I love snappers.
2x jumps in my opinion are terrible beacause it makes it way harder to estimate the stack size of your opponents.

Edit:
PROS for option #3 you have traditional denomination and you need less chips. Actualy 2x jumps are the most efficient way you can create a breakdown. But again it makes it way harder to estimate your opponents stack.

In theory? Option 1.

In reality? Option 3.

Hard pass on $2.50 chips or no-denoms.

Thanks everyone for the responses and advices, very helpful to get more insight too.

Somehow, it seems to make my decision ever harder than before.

Option 3 for sure. It builds just like a T100 set and as such you don't need many .50s. $20 plaque would be a nice touch.

I forgotten about this thread until now.

In the end, I went with the Option 1 (10c - 50c - $2 - $10) for my custom set and following is the "finished" products.

Still missing 1 dealer button (TBA) and also some $50 chips too.

Very well done LeLe - what a nice small cash set!
I think you won‘t regret going with option 1!

Don‘t know if you really need the $50 chip…

If you want i can do a DB with Tan/blue/green spots or what you like… just let me know.

Glad you went for the 10c/50c/$2/$10. I did the same with £/p and it's playing really smoothly and they are also UK coins too
Thanks, and I think the stake and chips size is just nice for a travel set too.

Also, I couldn’t have any suitable roulette Mold to add on as my $50 so i decided to recycle some of my THC spares as placeholder today.

commemorate family
If you were thinking of a family member on each chip, there is a demand for a family portrait on a plaque.

If this is the case, option 3 is the only option.

Edit: clearly I saw this too late.

That is still a good idea, thanks

I might just do that for my future projects or even something to add on for this existing one

This set is done to commemorate the birth of my daughter who is born in the year of Rabbit thus the rabbit mascot

I'm pleased to see that 10p-50p-£1-£5 isn't considered weird.

for my beginner set for 10p/10p I was going to use 10p-50p-£2 but due to what was available I had the option of 10p-50p-£1 and after thinking about it I decided I could live with and maybe preferred the £1 option, mainly because the stacks of £1 will be bigger.

I may run out of bank (£340) but we will see, my gang is used to £20 tourneys (no rebuy).

My 10p/10p game with 10p/50p/£2 has ran so smoothly. We only got our first £2 chips out last session
