Where am I? (1 Viewer)

Nope, because......

That rules out Missouri (PCA, Aztar, etc.), plus Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Washington, Oregon, and a few others I've forgotten.

But TCR has tried repeatedly to break the ice in Mississippi, to no avail. This would be epic news for future acquisitions.

Check post #8. Sounds like a good guess.

Dalton comes from NY...?

"A $250 million expansion of Southland Gaming & Racing that includes a new casino complex and a 20-story hotel will be announced today in West Memphis, the dog-racing venue's owners told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Wednesday." This is from a newspaper article in January.

That puts major pressure on the casinos in Tunica, which could lead to a chip boom if Jim is able to crack the Mississippi market. If the Roadhouse guess really is the Tunica property, that may be a good sign for future offerings as well.

Resorts Casino in Tunica also recently announced they will be closing in June.

Both Southland Dog track in West Memphis and Oaklawn Horse track in Hot Springs have had gaming for a few years and we recently passed a bill that grants 4 full fledged casino licenses to both tracks and 2 others in Jefferson County (Pine Bluff) & Pope County (Russelville). All except for Southland are centrally located in the middle of the state.

Southland is never going to put a dent on Tunica casino. They have had gaming, slots & electronic table games for a while. It is and has always been dive & a pit and stinks like an ashtray. Nobody is going to go there when the Tunica casinos are just 30 minutes away except the most degenerate gamblers. Oaklawn on the other hand is and will be a class operation.

I wouldn't bet on that. Southland is just starting a 250 million dollar expansion that will include a 20 story hotel. They have already severly hurt Tunica, hence the recent closings. Tunica will be down to five or six casinos when Resorts closes and I can easily see a couple more not making it much longer. I think Horseshoe has the best chance of survival.

The downfall of Tunica's casinos is more due to the economy downturn, floods along the Mississippi and the overbuilding saturation of casino in the area. Casinos have been closing in Tunica County for quite some time.

While the increased casino gaming in Arkansas will certainly affect traffic to Tunica going forward IMO the pressure poised by Southland the last few years has had little to do with it. Of course that's just my opinion.

And the folks at Southland wouldn't know how to build a resort if it hit them over the head, IMO. :sneaky:

I agree Southland is a pit, but with the new relaxed gaming laws, a Vegas-based group is likely to open a property there to tap the Memphis market. It's not like Tunica is a garden spot, so it wouldn't take much to pull traffic away. I don't think Southland has been a direct competitor before, but that may change in the next year of two.

I do hope the Horseshoe and Gold Strike stay open as they're decent places to play. Gold Strike put new clay chips in play in 2008 moving away from Chipco's, but I think the Horseshoe chips haven't really changed and are well worn. I could be wrong.

In general the gaming choices compared to the early 1990's when casinos first opened in Tunica has exploded everywhere. I remember standing in line for 2-3 hours to pay a $10 cover charge just to walk into Splash when it opened. There were few options besides Vegas & NJ for people in the middle of America. It was a boom market. They built 9 or 10 casinos in the area in just a few years. Now there is way more competition for the gambling dollar just about everywhere.

And sorry Jim for hijacking this thread.

I believe you will have plenty of business going forward if you can crack the Mississippi market

I too stood in that line and paid my $10 cover many times. The owners of Splash made out like gang busters.

And having to tag team with a friend for the seat at the BJ table because if you got up to take a leak you wouldn't get another seat for a couple of hours, oh the days. :D

This is the first time in 10 years, since I bought my PCAs from @TheChipRoom that I've got funds in my PayPal account in time for another chiproom sale.

Since my PayPal is full from the recent sale of another set of PCAs, fate must have determined that I must participate in another chiproom sale lol
