What kind of poker table do you have? (1 Viewer)

Currently in the process of finishing my basement. Planning on adding a bar down there, along with a nice corner couch, darts, big buck hunter, etc. Trying to decide on what type of table to buy. I’ve been looking at the tables that fold in half that have the cushion around it, as well as the legs that kick in. My wife wants to get a table that I can play poker on, as well as anyone can play other board games on, such a catan. I’m not super keen on the hexagon wooden tables as I feel there isn’t enough room if more people want to play something. What does everyone else use? Anyone have a table they use for multiple games or uses?

Get a permanent table with a removeable dining top, especially if you have a dedicated space for it. Multiple vendors offer that option.

If you're going to use a poker table also as a board gaming table, then I suggest rectangular or square. They offer the maximum space on the playing surface which is sometimes needed for games with physical boards, plus some space for cards, chits, meeples, etc around the edges.

Oval tables are great for poker, but you lose a lot of real estate near the ends where the table curves, and poker tables have padded rails which eat up a lot of playing surface space. If you customize your table, maybe opt for a narrower rail.

Eh, I’ve played board games with a couple buddies weekly for the past few years on a Barrington and rarely run into space issues. Sometimes a bit cramped with larger games or have to use a chair/side table for the biggest (e.g. gloomhaven), but for 95% of games no issue.

That said, we play with 3 players, but I don’t like overly complicated games with more players than that anyhow.

YMMV, but I’m personally 100% going oval when I upgrade down the road, knowing the vast majority will be used for board games.

A little under 50 inches wide. I love this table. In the future might change the custom cloth when it needs a refresh.

With a dedicated space for it, the table doesn't need to have folding legs (unless you would take it out in the garden for a BBQ). I certainly needs a dining/whatever use top, to also protect the real poker table beneath.

Certainly go for an oval, even a smaller one if needed (for just 8 players). Whatever the size and shape, remember that each player needs 61cm or 24in of circumference to be really comforable.
55cm is cramped and hardly tolerable, while 30in (76cm) is for State Dinners at Presidential or Royal Pallaces. Do the math!
