Tourney What are you favorite House Rules? (2 Viewers)

I use WSOP rules for both tourney and cash games. I got TIRED of the endless discussions about how it was ruled at this casino....so and so does it this way...my casino does it that way...blah, blah, blah.

The biggest pain in the ass was showdown.

"The last aggresor has to show first."
"No...there was no action on the river, so you show in order."
"WELL....at my mom's brother inlaw's great uncles house...."

Good example. What’s the WSOP ruling? No action on river show in order?

No rabbit hunting unless you expose your hand first.

For some reason the people who really wanted to see that last card, didn't want to show the shit cards they were playing so it pretty much eliminated the rabbit hunt requests.
Oh I like that one. Simple and elegant.

You wanna rabbit hunt? $1 per street to the bad beat jackpot.

The following are most of my house rules:

House Policies
  • Robert's Rules of Poker version 11 (hereinafter RRoP) is our cash game rulebook, and the Tournament Directors Association Rules 2019 version 1.0 (hereinafter TDA) is our tournament rulebook. A decisionmaker may use the TDA to support cash game ruling when the referenced rule(s) in RRoP is not sufficiently detailed. House rules always take precedence.
  • Players may not use electronic device(s) while active in a hand.
  • All cards and chips must be on the table and in plain view at all times.
  • No food or drinks on the felt.
  • Players returning to the same game after cashing out earlier must buy-in equal to the amount removed when leaving.
  • The designated banker is the only person who buys or sells chips.
  • Cash outs will be rounded down to the nearest dollar. Remaining chips may be donated to the host, transferred to another player, donated to the next pot (as dead money), or gambled away. The designated banker will not accept coins. (aka the "no coin policy")
  • Chips may be transferred from one player to another if the reason is acceptable and the amount transferred is negligible. However, all player-to-player chip transfer must occur between hands and never during a hand.
  • There are no dedicated dealers; we rotate the deal with the BB shuffle method. The big blind, after posting his blind, takes in the discards from the previous hand, squares up the deck, and shuffles. When the current hand ends he will slide the pack to the player on his right, the new button, who will cut and deal.
  • During the draw round in any Draw games, the proper dealer procedure is to push and pull a participant’s draw cards. An exposed card on the draw cannot be taken. However, if the player elects to have his draw cards pitched by the dealer, it will be so at the player’s risk and any exposed card in that circumstance will be kept by the player.

Conduct and Etiquette
  • A player planning to leave early must announce his intention to the other players a reasonable time prior to his departure.
  • Unless there is suspected stalling, players may not call clock on another player.
  • Unless there is suspected collusion, "I Want To See That Hand" is not enforced.

General Play
  • In cash games, the "simplified moving button" rule will be used. The dealer button moves to the next active player on the left, and the first and second players remaining to the left pay the small and big blinds. Missed blinds are ignored.
  • A new player entering the game need not post to be immediately dealt a hand.
  • Players may "buy the button" if the option is available.
  • New player starting between the small blind and the button can play for free, but the button will skip him the next hand. Alternatively, the new player can "buy the button."
  • All players are dealt in. To have a live hand, players must be at their seats when the action comes to him. “At your seat” means in reach of your chair. This rule is not intended to encourage players to be out of their seats while in the hand.
  • To avoid being dealt in, a player must announce his intention to take a break away from the table to the other players. Players who intentionally dodge any blinds will incur a penalty.
  • In non-tournament games, two optional live straddles are allowed. The player who posts the last straddle has last action for the first round of betting and is allowed to raise. To straddle, a player must be on the immediate left of the big blind and must post an amount twice the size of the big blind. To double straddle, a player must be on the immediate left of the player who straddled, and must post an amount twice the size of the first straddle. A straddle bet sets a new minimum bring-in; it is not treated as a raise. The button may not straddle.
  • Players may not make change from trailing bets. Either verbally announce your bet or make change with your neighbors prior to your action.
  • A player who accidentally or intentionally exposes his cards with action pending will NOT have a dead hand.
  • For pot limit, the first betting round is true pot limit; after the first betting round, all betting is done in $1 increments, rounding up from the odd chip.
  • In Dramaha, if a card is exposed during the draw, the dealer will set the exposed card aside and complete the draw so everyone behind the player with the exposed card will receive their intended draw cards. The next card on top of the deck is flipped up to be the turn card. Finally, before the turn betting starts, the dealer will push, not pitch, one replacement card to the player with the exposed card. The exposed card will then be face up on top of the deck to be used as a river burn card. This rule only applies if the dealer was not instructed to push and pull draw cards during the draw round.

There have been threads before where people have posted their house rules. I think some people have even posted or linked them in a printable format. Try some searches.

I’ve always used this exact rule. Table your cards and we’ll run it. We get maybe one hunt every 4 or 5 games.

One casual rule I like is the “show em” chip. Everyone gets one for the night. Use it to reveal someone’s cards who took a pot without showdown. Can’t be used to reveal a losing hand.

Another one to avoid potential controversy is any misdeal results in a reshuffle and new deal. Too many times we’ve had people want to keep cards or we burn the exposed card and keep going etc. always ends up in someone bitching. So now it’s known by everyone that we just redeal.

"Show one. Show all"

Meaning if you show one other player your hole cards, you must show the whole table.

Admittedly not always strictly followed especially if the two involved folded pre-flop or on the flop and are playing the "If only I had stayed in" dream record.
