Edit: I've played as high as 50-100 but that was in Vegas during the wsop. Playing higher than that requires you to know someone and not be a pro. Most of the high stakes games and private or hosted by a pro and its tough to break in. Not sure outside of AC and Vegas would you see a regular open game like that. I think the 10-20 / 20-40 crew here in Chicago are some of the best players out there and I don't know anywhere outside of the Borgata and LA that run bigger games as regularly as we do.

Back in the Party Poker days I played in some of the bigger NL and PLO games... I think 5-10 100BB buy in was as big as they ran.

These days is strictly 1-2 and 2-5 live play.

Highest I've played in a Casino was 2/5. I played regularly in a 1/2 home game that played more like 10/20. There was never a pot that wasn't at the very least $30 plus pre-flop every time. Just a lot of action. Once it got to $500 or more by the end of each pot regularly I had to bow out of the game.

Online: 5/10 NL one time back in the day
Live: 2/5 on a few occasions
Limit: 10/20 LHE once

Oh new high..... somehow we got a 50-100 running. Absolutely insane game. There was at least 200k on the table. I booked a small win (6kish not pictured here). But some people were up 40k profit. Totally nuts.

Dumb question-how do y’all tip the dealer if the lowest chip in play is a $25?

I'm assuming this is uncapped. What are you buying in with? I see around 7k in front rnn
Yes everything above 5-10 is uncapped. The minimum buy-in was 5K to unlimited. Since I had never played that high (truely no one had at the table) I always buy in short so I was in for the minimum. I was the short stack at the table the whole night. People were in for 20-30k easy. Some guys stuck more than 40k. Like I said it was a bloodbath but really really fun.

Highest I've played was 2/5 online so I'm not familiar with how high stakes work but is 50bb just putting yourself at risk?

Playing higher than you ever played is always fun. I guess it is just degeneracy but it is a rush.

Not really... The game plays big and since everyone was new to the level play was pretty tight. I played tight aggressive and people know that with a shorter stack I had tighter ranges and was willing to get it in so it didn't really affect me that much

I played 2/5 one time in my life.

Had a great run in the casino one Friday afternoon..I cashed for $1400 CDN at the $1/2 No Limit (nowdays it's $1/3) from a $200 buy

I was on such a high. Nearly 12 hours had gone by. I wanted more still. I decided to sit down with my money and try $2/5 , I was instantly outclassed and 'outmonied' and lost all my profits along with $300 of my own money inside of 45 mins. Back to back cracked aces. I nearly wept in my car, drove home.

It certainly was a rush. When I got home after booking what was a very small win for the game I was thinking to myself "Did that just happen?" lol

Good for you taking a shot though! If you truely want to get better and beat the game you have to get out of your comfort zone and play with better players. I started at 1-3 and now im a reg winning player at 1-20/20-40. I wouldn't be the player I am today if it werent for taking shots and getting the crap kicked outta me at a new level.

Right on, I wanna work on my short stack game, thanks for the response.

In my experience short stacking works well when trying to "take a shot" at higher stakes. It helps me be more strict with my starting hands. For example, being short stacked you can't play hands like suited connectors as you don't have enough behind to make it really worth it. You are forced to keep it simple and just play fit or fold.

All you have to do is double up once and then you are really in the game.

yeah I see how this can be strategic but can also be exploited easily.

It all depends. If you sit down and buy in the for the minimum people have no clue what your strategy is. They might just think you suck and showed up to donk off some chips. After you fold for an hour though then people will catch on and it might be hard to get action.

Its definitely an exploitable strat but ultimately if you play aggressive you can make some bigger stacks fold and even bluff more often if you've built your table image correctly. I didn't have much to play and actually the biggest poit I won that night was a c bet bluff into a 3 bet pot with air.
