I’ve rolled out a few different posts on this project but finally got the new felt installed and all chips out to look at as a family. Thought that was worthy of one final “introductory” post!

I grew up in a small town on Rt 66 and left at 18 headed to college. The “Mother Road” always held a special place in my heart and as a kid my grandpa and I would talk about all of the people who went from East to West exploring our great country. Each time I’d go back home, we’d get together and eat at places like the Rock Cafe which was inspiration for the Pixar movie Cars. The nostalgia never left me.

Five years ago, work called for a relocation of my family to Tulsa which conveniently also sits on Rt 66. This move coincided with my growing love of poker and more specifically my love of poker chips. Thus my dreams of a set to commentate Rt 66 were born.

Over that same time on PCF, I learned that the famous neon at the Pioneer Club in Vegas was named “Vegas Vic”. I’m Vic too! Now I was conflicted!! I liked both ideas and couldn’t settle on which way to go. Because of this, I bounced around with several different sets like the HSI Secondaries, Solids, CDI 98s, CPC Rounders, Tigers, Golden Broken Arrows (twice!) and even the Badlands! (I know, I know).

None of those cured my itch for something personal. Something that held meaning for me beyond poker.

Then came an auction by @rustycheerio for two racks of hologram fives that I made a “participation bid” on and promptly forgot about. I won it. Oops! Not the first time I’d accidentally bought chips, so I figured I would just sell them sometime down the road. But once they arrived, I was in love with them. Shortly thereafter I grabbed a couple racks of blue milled SLs and liked the way they matched…

The search for leaded 3d14s and 4d14s (preferably with shaped inlays) was on! There were purchases of several different $25s and $100s that were close, some purchases of chips that I just couldn’t stand to murder, and a few that didn’t match at all.

Ultimately I settled on this group of chips and have to say that I am very very pleased…. Outpost San Ramon $25s as a Frac, SLs as ones, hologram $5s as my five, PCA $25 for the twenty five, and King Aruba $100s as my hundo.

Now for the thank you’s for help along the way… @Gear and @Wifey for the milling and labeling, @Cratty and @Okku for design help, @DirtyTIVA @Josh Kifer @rustycheerio and @TX_Golf_N_Poker for selling me the chips, and @T_Chan for the custom felt. Also @doublebooyah85 and @JeepologyOffroad for feedback when I had questions.

Thank you 100X!!!

I hope you enjoy!

Vic

WOW. Love the colors, shaped inlay on frac is awesome. Label is GREAT. I’m in and around Route 66 all the time in SoCal so these relate a bit to me as well. Great job and patience needed to put this together.

Happy to see the final result, and what a result! Congratulations on this superb achievement!
