Somehow, it's been five years since my last trip to Las Vegas. Between the skyrocketing cost of an LV trip and the abundance of poker both locally and on places where I've vacationed, I just haven't felt the itch for a while.

There's a chance that I might finally go back this year. For those of you who have gone recently, what's the poker scene like? I will likely play low stakes NLHE (1-2 through 2-5), perhaps a low BI tourney, and maybe some 1-2 PLO.

Where are the best games? Good harvesting opportunities? Rooms to avoid or watch out for? Anything else relevant?

Softest 2/5 is Bellagio due to the $500 max buy in. Wynn and Venetian are tougher due to the 1500 and 1k caps respectively.

Do you have any hotel status or anything? Might be useful in getting status to use in Vegas.

When are you thinking of going? That also makes a difference.

Caesars and Aria seem to be the hotter poker rooms now. Venetian and Mirage are dying. Caesars spreads plo/BigO on certain days, check bravo. Bally's was terrible everyone there was chasing the free buffets. Flamingo is always good. Wynn is good but tougher games. Wynn and Aria both spread the 9-18 dealers choice.

Best 1-2 PLO in that it runs consistently is at the Aria. They regularly will have multiple tables. The Wynn typically will spread 1-2 PLO on the weekends.

Wynn is very well run, and nice, room, with excellent dealers. But definitely tougher. Caesars is soft, IMO. Aria is loaded with regs and can be tough too. Venetian has some decent games.

Here's your dailies: https://www.cardplayer.com/lasvegaspoker

During the series Flamingo regularly had a $1-2 PLO game going. Game was pretty OK when I played it but there wasn't a ton of huge pots or stacks that I remember. Their 'room' isn't much to get excited about though - it's just a dedicated area enclosed by a 4-foot tall wall. If you prefer elegant poker rooms that are isolated from the rest of the casino floor, look elsewhere.

I would LOVE to go during WSOP, ideally to catch a cheapo like the Big 50 or Colossus. Let's say late May looks like good timing.

I don't mind a room that's part of the main casino like Flamingo or Excalibur as long as it's not smoky. I've found in the past that these "rooms" tend to attract casual gamblers who wander in and don't really know what they're doing.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned Sam’s Town yet. Pretty soft game. Better rake than anywhere on the strip. And maybe the best casino with a poker room to harvest from (though minty chips were getting more rare last time I was in town). If you specifically want to harvest, play some limit earlier in the day with the old retired folks and play loose.

It is a small room and though they do run both NLHE and Omaha, it’s usually been one or the other so you kinda just gotta play whatever they are spreading.

On the strip, I’d recommend flamingo for softer games at the low stakes and for harvesting opportunities. Most of the other rooms I like on the strip aren’t great candidates for harvesting (I.e., house molds).

If you're going during WSOP, there isn't a poker room in Vegas that isn't full. In general though, Caesar's is soft and usually busy. Flamingos is super soft IMO. I feel like Venetian is always full of regulars all year round but that may just be chance as others tell me otherwise. Bellagio and Aria are my personal favorites. Games are always good there for me. During WSOP wait-lists there are often 1hr+ though so call ahead to put your name down.

I'm in the midst of planning a Vegas trip as well. It's been a year since the last trip, but that was a whirlwind trip, and all Downtown.

This time I'm looking at off-strip, non-downtown. Maybe Red Rock, Green Valley Ranch, Orleans, or (because of @wonderpuddle 's suggestion) Sam's Town. That will cover the first leg. Leg #2 will be a roadtrip to the Grand Canyon (never been), and Leg #3 will be on the strip.

Any trip to the strip involved the Flamingo, as I find it to be the best, social poker game. Wynn, Aria, Venetian and Bellagio are all alright, but it's more serious. If you want a table full of just fun people, it's the Flamingo. Excalibur can also be fun, but it's more like a home game with players that really have no idea what they are doing.
