Working on a THC line up right now and wanted to use a white chip as my $1 chip. Set is for .25/.50 games, mostly friendly family games using mostly $1 increment bets/raises. Every now and than I'll get a bigger game from some other home games I go to, so it'll be a mix of heavy use of the $1's.

Wondering if any of you used a white chip in your line up and regretted it down the line after heavy use for your work horse chip or heavily used denom.

Now realistically I don't mind to much, as they are meant to be used and that is part of it. But at the same time, wondering if any of you regret using a white chip in your line up and have any input against it. This may be a stupid question, but still curious to hear what some of you have to say after a few years use.

Follow up, if you did notice grime/dirt build up quickly what did you do to clean? Quick bath and some light brushing of the surface?

I noticed some dirt issues on my white chip.

For my tournament set, I use a white chip for the 20k chips. Largest denomination, so it doesn't always get used. However, I use one as a card topper on a few occasions, when playing at other places.
Now, that card capper chip, white, has become dirty. After only a few uses, ive stopped using it in this manner.

I love a good white chip, but I also like chips the pop! Getting dirty negates that a bit. At least toy eye.

If it was daily games, white might get grimy, but I don’t think any regular weekly type home game is going to put that much gunk on a chip… same gunk would be on any other chip anyways… I say enjoy it!

Good point.

No regrets. I have used White chips as both fracs and $1s.
Any photos of current state? You feel like your constantly cleaning or worried about them?

I‘m not a fan of white color as one of the workhorse chip.
They look great and easy to combine with other colors. Love to use them as higher denom!

I have certainly noticed that white chips get dirtier faster. Well, not actually dirtier — but the dirt, scuffs, etc. are more noticeable, for the obvious reason.

Quite the opposite. I have an ultrasonic cleaner, and white chips are easiest to maintain. Because it is white, it never looks dried out, and doesn't need oiling.

Love ours. Yes, they get dirty, but so do our Blue quarters, and our red fives.

I’ve always thought it was a mistake for white chips as low denoms. I’ve never understood that. I know they can be cleaned, but I’d prefer a chip set where the chips brighten as the denoms get higher. Sorta color and spot progression if you will.

There’s really nothing wrong with a white $1 chip though. It all comes down to a matter of preference.

White ones are so ubiquitous that you may confuse players with other colors. For Friends & Family fixed-limit games they're certainly ok.
As for cleaning chips (not collection rate), using cleaning paste such as Quick'n'Brite and/or brushing with a very soft toothbrush is enough. Was told several times not to use water on chips, and in any case, dry them immediately. Also, it's normal that chips age and wear, everyone I know (no collectors tho) play with used chips.

Thanks for the insight everybody. Just curious if anyone was going to come on here and say 'avoid at all costs' haha. Im still debating on a white $1 or going with something else/different.

They all get dirty. Just like everything else you won. Which would you prefer to play with and/or enjoy cleaning the most or at least despise cleaning the least? Your workhorse chips will need cleaned the most frequently, regardless of color. The upside is, it gives you something to do when the forum is slow and you’re not playing poker. 😂
