Ultrasonic Chip Cleaning (98 Viewers)

I didn't give my thoughts above on ultrasonic or not. I've tried many methods of cleaning including:
  1. fakeTSP in ultrasonic per this thread
  2. simple green soaks with occasional agitation per @cpac54
  3. ...and then manual cleaning with power scrubber of the worst chips
  4. oxy clean soaks with occasional agitation per @PokerSTLplayer
  5. ...and then manual cleaning with power scrubber of the worst chips
  6. dawn soaks with occasional agitation and manual cleaning with power scrubber @itilthard
All in an effort to avoid handling and scrubbing every single chip and my conclusion so far is:
  1. Nothing is perfect as in fast, cheap, 100% effective, non damaging and requiring little interaction per chip.
  2. The long soaks will break down and remove the gunky boogers that are on the surface of dirty chips.
  3. Nothing but manual intervention per consistently release dirt that's below the surface of the chip, as in deep into the recessed text of a house mold.
  4. ...so far. I'm also told that if the chips aren't clean let them soak and agitate longer in oxy clean or simple green and try again.
Vevor seems faster in terms of cycle time but just letting them soak longer while you do other things is easier in some ways.

Next up will be cleaning similarly dirty chips together (because mine were mixed some were just surface dust and some had decades of gunk) AND
if they're not clean enough just let them go longer.

Even if a 45 minute soak is necessary if the result is a clean chip with no damage and no manual interaction per chip I think that's the winning method for me.

Ok cool. See, this is why I ask. My OCD is BAD!!! lol

I think once a year cleaning would be more than sufficient, but not all at once. Rotate sets and maybe clean 1/4 of your most used chips every 3 months.

It looks like you're hosting a lot. But even with weekly games, most can get away with cleaning every few years with set rotations.
 
Hopefully this is the best place to post this to receive maximum exposure; has anyone ever used Citrasolv for general maintenance/ cleaning or to remove the sticky residue after removing labels or inlays?

I have used this product for many sticky or gummy related clean up as well as other spots and stuffs, it works really well for that and I like it better than Goo Gone.
I am just wondering if anyone has used it or if anyone knows if it would cause any damage to the chip.

This is great to see in action, Can you add more Action shots? - and some notes to help the community if you can - like how many chips you can do at a time? what model Ultrasonic cleaner are using - how many batches of chips can you clean with one solution bath? are you using / rotating the salad spinner, how long how are the chips int he solution. :)

Got a few thousand chips to do myself (another chip project, chips not pictured) - reading intently for any new tips - tricks.

Yeah this is why I put the Vevor 6L on the back patio table. Vaporized hooker juice, vaporized hookers etc... it's all going somewhere but not in the house :)

Adding this to my list of reasons I might fail a drug test.
 
Worked up several 3-D print ideas for washing ships. The first prototype of the electrically driven drum and it worked great. Obviously the prototype was designed to test the system. The next print job will have the drum actually recessed in the tank and gear driven. While working on the drum idea, we decided to print a couple simple racks. The neat thing about the rack is the chip only has contact on two very small points in the rack, lots of space between chips. After using the rack, I realized we wasted a lot of time working on the drum idea.

But how is this different from the regular metal basket that comes with it?

But how is this different from the regular metal basket that comes with it?
Chips are not stacked on top of each other like in the basket. That's the original reason why everybody went to the salad spinners.
The gap between the chip and the rack allows better ultrasonic wave penetration. The chips fit very loosely in the rack idea allowing better cleaning and rinsing.
