so - if you use the salad spinner inside the 6L Ultrasonic cleaning device - do you still need to turn ON the Ultrasonic device for cleaning? or is the spinning motion enough to agitate the chips and perform the cleaning in the solution?
Which is better for cleaning - simply using the 6L and putting the chips in the wire bucket - or using the salad spinner in the 6L with ultrasonic device turned ON?
Using the salad spinner with the ultrasonic turned on. You could use the wire basket if you wanted, the idea behind the spinner is it just helps chips move around to make sure all surfaces are exposed when you are doing two barrels or more at a time. Might be overkill, but has always work extremely well for me.

Chips in the ultrasonic itself will work, but you’re able to do more chips at once, more quickly, with the salad spinner
I personally believe the salad spinner inside the ultrasonic is over-complicated, messy, and unnecessary.
I have taken to simply mixing the chips around with an old spatula while the cycle is running. Easy to constantly move the chips, flip them, and have all sides exposed, which provides the same function and gets rid of any splashing. I already bought the salad spinner, so I just use it for rinsing off the chips (pre-ultrasonic after a very short dawn/water bath, post-ultrasonic to get all the tsp-water off, and post plain water bowl rinse to make the transferring to a towel way less messy/damp). Highly recommend for 40 chips at a time in a 6L.

When you use the spatula, are you cleaning 30-40 chips at a time?
I do 40 at a time.
I always felt salad spinner kept them from sticking better than just spatula, but to each their own. I suppose as long as you're diligent with either method, they'll turn out fine. But to the earlier point, definitely want all surfaces exposed. I do 2 barrels per and it works fine. I guess if one was worried, one barrel at a time would be safer. Salad spinner with zip ties is best but I worry its too aggressive and causes bites on sharp chips.

Never had this happen to me. The water still gives a cushioning effect.
Me neither, zero problems. Would much rather have warmed up clay rubbing against plastic than the metal basket too.

Most of my chip cleaning has consisted of extremely dirty bicycle tires.

Not necessarily. Some chips are just stored in appalling conditions. Like in the open air next to an industrial site.
No. E.g. The Paris $1 THC & $5s at WSOP are dirty and sharp. They don't have the thick gunk that some bike tires could have but there's dirt on every chip.

Used the vevor 6l with tsp this morning on 400 36mm Paulson Cleveland wsop tourney chips.
Worked like a charm and only took like 30 min to clean and oil them all... Much better than spending 3-4 hours scrubbing.
I probably cleaned 60 ish at a time and just dumped them in and stirred with a spatula for 45 seconds.
They were a bit grimy, very happy with the results.

The original post recommends an ultrasonic cleaning machine that’s no longer available. Not surprising since it was written 12 years ago. So, I have 2 questions.
1). How do we feel about this? It comes in multiple sizes. Is there such a thing as too big if I have the storage space?

2). None of my chips are particularly dirty. Minimal dirt from a handful of sessions and I’m ready to clean, because I have horrible OCD. Is this whole method overkill for chips in the below condition?

Those of us who clean relatively often generally use a 6L capacity which is filled half way. It allows for at least 2 barrels at a time.
I would say most don't need to buy a machine unless they have thousands of chips to clean, and/or are doing it on a regular basis like a few times a year. Those who have fewer chips or less frequent cleaning cycles should borrow one or maybe share between bunch of chippers who live close by. Or if you're cleaning lots of other things with it, like jewelry, tools, etc. then maybe it's worth the outlay.
Dawn detergent with a soft bristle brush will be sufficient for most people.
I had maybe 2,000 chips when I joined PCF in April. I’m well over 25,000 now. I also went from hosting once in a blue moon to at least once a week and will be running multiple tables regularly very soon. I had a wait list for my main table all night long Saturday. I likely won’t clean chips after one session, but every two or three seems likely. And nearly all 1,400 chips in my Casablanca set hit the felt on just one table Saturday night. (Serious animals! A $300 max buy in game, but match the stacks, so everyone had $1,500 plus within a few hours lol)
So, my question is more related to what I will need, not so much what used to get me by. A soft bristle brush and even just two racks is enough to wreck my back for the day. Not whining, just have had major back surgery and am looking to avoid undue wear and tear on the my old ass! lol

A potential pro tip...
I ordered the vevor 6l from vevor site directly...was like $85
A few hours later, I had a change of heart and decided I don't have enough chips to clean to justify the machine. I did a chat to cancel the order, but they said too late
They offered 2 options...
-refuse shipment and get a full refund. It was being delivered via Amazon delivery even though I didn't order from Amazon...I don't know how to refuse delivery and didn't want to figure it out.
-they said I could keep it and receive a 30% refund for keeping it..which was a $27 refund.
I chose that option so I got the 6l machine for like $55-$60 shipped. I think it paid for itself with my one batch of 400 chips already.
I also don't see a need for larger than 6l... It easily handles 50-60 chips at a time.
Noooo.. every 2 or 3 sessions seems like madness. I think were cleaning years or at least months of chip cage dust and hooker juice off live chips. In a home game every 3 sessions seems crazy.
