Today (1/29) the management sent out a memo to the Trop employees notifying them the resort will close on April 2. Feel free to read the attached memo in its entirety.
The towers will meet their fate as many previous resorts have done - with an implosion. Date TBA.
The Tropicana opened in 1957 making it one of the longest-running resorts on the Strip.

Imagine that. Running an existing casino being considered as less profitable than redevelopment.

Anyone hired a rental truck yet to grab chips?
I was thinking the same thing. That would be funny to do a PCF kickstarter for the chips.

Here is the news on it.

I believe that Nevada law/regs do not allow casinos to sell decommissioned chips, so no chip room type sale for these.

I heard somewhere that in the days before it closed, the Mirage was liberal with selling chips at the cage (ostensibly for use in the casino) and letting folks walk out with racks. Basically looked the other way on volume harvesting. And it makes sense they would want to recoup some money that way rather than shred it all. I wonder if Tropicana will do the same?

Someone correct me if I am wrong on either account please.

You heard this from... a fortune teller? Mirage hasn't closed.
The poker room at the Mirage closed in 2020, I think. I know they have also been acquired by the Hard Rock and are expected to go through some sort of rebranding.

Has someone been to the Mirage lately and can confirm whether you can still harvest chips? Did I get bad info somewhere? Sorry if I did and passed it along.

Gotcha. Was thinking Mirage as a whole. Soon enough, though...

Yeah, I was not clear myself on that point. I conflated the poker room closing with the Hard Rock acquisition and rebranding. Which are separate things. So thanks for clarifying.

My question remains if there will be a window when the cages will still be selling chips and management won't care if (or even want them to) walk out the door?

Mirage is no longer chill about harvesting after HR take over. Hard to walk away with a barrel from blackjack. Overall quality as a casino went down after MGM sold.

They think it’s a huge deal about people harvesting. Cage won’t even listen to you about it. Manager said no, tipping won’t work since there’s no poker.

Trop was chill when it was owned by Penn, unsure afterwards. Also chips were in nice shape.

This is, as they say in Yiddish, a shanda. Three of the things I love most are baseball, gambling, and history… but not like this.

May the Spirit of Old Las Vegas haunt the Athletics until they return to Philadelphia and the mob returns to Vegas.

wow, one of the few OG strip casinos left. Now it's just Flamingo 46, Sahara 52 (I guess since they brought it back ), Caesars Palace 66, very loosely Circus Circus 68

Can you count Sahara? It closed in 2011, opened as SLS, and just recently "rebranded" as Sahara.

@FickieRowler has been harvesting for members the previous months with several ads!

If they make a move on the Flamingo, they’re gonna have to Tiananmen Square my ass. Over my dead, litigious body.
Pretty sure Ceasars has already been shopping the Flamingo to sell to someone else fully expecting them to tear it down and rebuild.

I'll he checking in to the Flamingo this Sunday for my annual pre super bowl weekend trip. Anybody need any super bowl prop bets made?

For those whom are interested, I went to the Tropicana today with the intention of harvesting, and they don't even have any $1 chips on the floor! They're using real currency 50 cent coins instead! And I tried the cage, no luck. So then I thought, maybe the gift shop has something, NOPE! Nothing Tropicana left in stock. Sad!

Oyo either becomes worth 5x as much, or is next to be imploded (maybe for parking). Sad to see the Trop go, but it has been 20+ years since I walked in the doors so understandable it would be on the chopping block.

There is a thread for the Tropicanna for auction of all their items from the casino, restaurants, rooms, kitchen, banquet rooms etc I wish I was closer to grab some banquet chairs for my poker table.
