I need to build a 500 chip set for a friend. They mostly play turbo style tourney's (don't have the structure with me, this is a surprise). They also occasionally play .25/.25 cash games.

The chip denoms available for purchase that are

.25
1
5
25
100
500
1k
5k
ncv

Suggestions on a set of chips that could work for both cash and tourney.

One table, 10 players max (although I think 5-7 is the norm).

Single table, 10 players? If you can bump it to 600, I think we can do separate cash and tourney sets....

Thanks, I updated the OP.

Give me a 600 chip break down and I'll see if she can handle the extra loot. Or fuck it, I'll pay for it.

T5k (10k capable) Turbo:
80 x $25
80 x $100
20 x $500
80 x $1000
20 x $5000

Stacks of 8/8/2/3(8), plenty of rebuys and colorups.

Cash
80 x $.25
120 x $1
100 x $5
20 x NCV (blue?) play as $20 or $50 depending on bank needs

Did you mean a set that can play for tourney OR cash?

Or one that can handle the tourney, and the side cash game for the bust-outs, at the same time?

Atomik's post is great for the latter.

But if you only need to be one at a time, you can definitely build the set with fewer chips.

Also - do you have samples?

The $1 chip tilts me. The edge printing is not aligned, so the red dot on the edge of the face doesn't match the edge. It doesn't bother me an ANY OTHER DENOM in the set, but it tilts me on the $1. If I didn't have a thing for white singles, I might have built a set of these with blue NCV chips as the $1.

I don't like using the same chips for cash and tourney. All it takes is 1 chip to make it's way from the tournament to the cash table, and the world begins to disintegrate.

That can only happen if you allow the denoms to overlap between sets. If the denoms are strictly used for either cash or tourney (as per atomiktoaster's breakdown), then I don't see how it can happen.
