So I am starting in a Tourney this saturday my buddy invited me too ita been going on for 13years they use Dice Chips and I told the guy who runs it if everyone through up some money we could get some denomination chips looking to go cheaper route they dont care if they are real chips like I like to have

Its 3 tables of 9 so 27 players and starting stacks of 6,000 chips so I said some Showdown Chips or Nexgens or some Milano chips

And what would the best breakdown be 6,000 in chips and chips would be $25,$100,$500&$1,000 thanks

An important question is whether or not rebuys are allowed in this tournament. Math below is for 30 players (even barrels and also will allow for 10 per table if he decides to go that way.

I'd go with starting stacks of 8/8/2/4 - so that gives a minimum count of:
(8 x 30) x $25 = 240 x $25
(8 x 30 + 240 / 4) x $100 = 300 x $100
(2 x 30 + 300 / 5) x $500 = 120 x $500
(4 x 30) x $1000 = 120 x $1000

This is a total of 780 chips.

If rebuys are allowed, I'd plan for up to 20ish rebuys and also for coloring up $500s:
(8 x 30) x $25 = 240 x $25
(8 x 30 + 240 / 4) x $100 = 300 x $100
(2 x 30 + 300 / 5) x $500 = 120 x $500
(4 x 30 + 1 x 20 + 120 / 2) x $1000 = 200 x $1000
(1 x 20) x $5000 = 20 x $5000

This is a total of 880 chips.

Pad each of those numbers as desired if you think you'd like to fill up a 1000-count case.

Hello there. This is the exact breakdown I have for my cards mold customs. Allows for a four tables using the 8x25,2x100 option or 12 with 3 tables.

this is the most chips you should really need and will feel very comfortable without change making issues too often etc.

No rebuys its a 8month long league once a month top 6 scores count top 10 make the final table in July

You’ll find many people to advise on the absolute minimum chips you can get away with. It’s a fun intellectual exercise.

But as a host… I say, don’t buy the absolute minimum necessary. Get enough so that players don’t have to make change every single hand.

And you don’t have to sweat it while coloring up.

And so that if your game changes, you have flexibility.

For basic chips, the difference between 800, 900 and 1,000 is trivial.

Exactly....there is such a thing as too many but as blinds rise and color ups occur there should be no issue. I have recently expanded a cash/tourney set to allow for a 4 table T5based tournament...partly because the T25 based tournament from the set was limited to only 3 tables at present due to cost of high value chips. Having played a bunch of VR poker recently I am also really digging the T5-1500 tourney (but i'd have longer rounds, lol). I like the idea of having a tourney set being capable of at least 3 but I'd prefer 4 tables. So now I have a set finally that exceeds 3 tables with a comfortable chip number. Interestingly the same set is sparse for a T25 with 3 tables, it is a better 2 table T25 set. Using a T5 base expands options for set while limiting $ outlaid for a tournament using a set that can also double as your cash chips (or not....).

the breakdown below while functional and more traditional it would make change and issue

Meanwhile the same set for 2 tables is quite comfortable for a two table single buy in or 1x rebuy/player game

Why have the minimum? Just stay within your budget for what you can enjoy.....or not...

In 2005 I played my first Texas Holdem tournament at the Luxor in Vegas and it soured me on "Tournament" poker for years.
It was a $30 one time buy in and they gave us 10 chips... I even asked the PB that if we used regular 1s and 5 chips we'd at least 22 chips? NOPE

From that point on whenever I hosted tournaments at home I was always have over 30 chips. Its just not as fun with tinny starting stacks.

Just something to keep in mind.
