Waiting List
I host a yearly tournament (NLH 25k Starting, Bounty) interested what others do as far as chip allocation. I do 40 chips (10-100, 20-500, 9-1000,1-5000)
I found this post very helpful in thinking about a 30 person, T100 base chip tournament breakdown:I host a yearly tournament (NLH 25k Starting, Bounty) interested what others do as far as chip allocation. I do 40 chips (10-100, 20-500, 9-1000,1-5000)
If I were to build a 3-table tourney set from scratch today, I'd go with a T100-base set using 30k stacks (10/6/6/4):
300 x T100
200 x T500
300 x T1000 (30x for T100 chip-up)
200 x T5000 (20x for T500 chip-up)
100 x T25000 (12x for T1000 chip-up)
--------------------
1100 chips
Sufficient chips for color-ups of the thtee lower denominations and up to 12 re-buys (5xT1000 + 5xT5000). Also supports 2-table BBA 50k stacks (15/9/14/6) with re-buys.
The extra T25k chips allow for more re-buys or larger starting stacks, and also 2-table T500-base high-roller tournaments (10/10/7/5). Add 80x more T25k and 20x T100k for super-baller events (1200 total chips).
Lots of flexibility for 1200 chips, and can even be used as a single-table cash set (10c/20c, 50c/1.00, or 1/2) if desired.
I really like the exact change bonus chip. Thanks for the idea.I do a 20k starting stack with bonus chips for showing up on time and paying with exact change. You make a good point. I might have to try this on my upcoming tournament. Thanks! There are many threads about this, but I think most vets here would agree that your breakdown has a disproportionate amount of 500s, which are generally least helpful in a tournament. I prefer something like 15/5/11/2 for T25k. 100 and 1000 are your workhorse chips.
IMO I feel you have way too many chips.I host a yearly tournament (NLH 25k Starting, Bounty) interested what others do as far as chip allocation. I do 40 chips (10-100, 20-500, 9-1000,1-5000)
I am expecting 3-4 tables this year. But I also do a 25K starting stack. Unlimited rebuys until second break.IMO I feel you have way too many chips.
There are two standard breakdowns for a 20K stack, assuming 100, 500, 1K, and 5K denoms.
15/5/6/2 and 10/10/4/7/2.
Which you go with depends on how any players you have. If you have two full tables or more? I would use the lesser of those stacks. Less than 2 tables? go with 15/5/6/2.
First of all, let me say I firmly believe there's not a "right" way to run a tournament. If your players are having fun, that's prime. So take everything else I write with a grain of saltI am expecting 3-4 tables this year. But I also do a 25K starting stack. Unlimited rebuys until second break.
Would you recommend 10/10/9/2 ?
For reference this is my chip inventory:
1000 - T100
800 - T500
600 - T1000
100 - T5000
100 - T10000
100 - T25000
I do have T25’s in my other chip set, I just did not include them in this count since the structure I use does not call for them.First of all, let me say I firmly believe there's not a "right" way to run a tournament. Having said that, there are more efficient ways to run tournaments. And I believe if you had come to those forum we would have advised a different inventory for chips. My biggest chipset can run a 40 person poker tournament, and that chipset has 1300 chips TOTAL. I also run T25 tournaments which means those 1300 chips have an entire extra denomination than you need.
You are rocking over 2700 chips and don't have T25s.
If I could redo your inventory, I would start with a 10/4/7/3 chip breakdown for T25K.
Let's assume 50% of the people rebuy once and you use a mixture of T25ks and T5Ks for it. You would need:
T100s: 400
T500s: 160
T1000s: 300-350
T5000s: 250-300
T25Ks: 25-50
You don't need 10K chips. Typically you want each nomination increase to be 4-5x the previous denomination. The sole exception - due to a mathematical quirk - is the increase from 500 to 1000.
Unfortunately right now, you hands are tied in chip breakdowns. I do think 10/10/9/2 is better overall, but you have too few 5Ks to really do much anything else.
