Things That Are Bullsh*t (7 Viewers)

I don’t want start any kind of argument at all.

But

It's going to be a huge disruptor for people shipping into the US.

This is probably the point of the whole thing. I mean anytime any change happens to any process it’s disruptive to the old process.

our main shipper Canada Post, has decided to use a 3rd Party app Zonos.
This is incorrect. Canada Post has not "decided" to use Zonos. It is USPS who is forcing Canada Post to use the app, because the USA has declared that all taxes, duties, and tariffs must be pre-paid before incoming postal items will be accepted by the USPS. To my knowledge, no other country in the world does this.

It’s just a couple of forms, same as CONUS shipping overseas.
This is also incorrect. It is absolutely not the same as shipping from the USA to other countries. Yes, there is a form to fill out (and there always has been) but I guarantee you -- if you're shipping from the USA to elsewhere, you are not required to pay the importing country's taxes, duties, and tariffs at the time of shipping.

I concur. The system that has been forced in place is complete bullshit.

How does the exporter get their money back when the importer (allegedly) pays the fees that the US government is responsible for collecting? Are there additional fees? Who gets a percentage of the money that is initially paid, then subsequently repaid? If the importer refuses payment of the fees, what happens then? Who pays for return shipping? How are the tax/duties/tariffs refunded? Why should I be providing my financial account details to a foreign government to be able to access this process?

This sounds insane to me. Like, we Americans never got a memo about this. But our president has been insisting that exporters pay tariffs, ever since he campaigned on a tariff-heavy platform. Apparently he made it true?

They bake it into the sales price up front - problem solved! The buyer can then decide if they want to pay that price or not.

Does it severely limit Canadian sellers, yes. Does it suck, yes.

Either bake it into the price, or don’t sell. At least until the rules get changed again. If history is a guide, it won’t be long ;)

This, or ads will have two prices...one for US (to cover prepaid tariffs) and another for rest of world. No different than the cash vs credit prices I've seen locally to cover merchant fees for credit cards by some retailers.

What would concern me is how the tariff is calculated by the app. It is not clear if it uses declared value or something else.

@Gear We can use Commercial shippers (UPS, FedEx, DHL) and ship without paying the duties, as they will handle that, and likely charge us a percentage for doing so. To the overall conversation that is the important distinction between duties, and tariffs. This isn't tariff related.

@allforcharity I signed up for the Zonos app today, and while they hold my personal info, they don't hold my bank account. They seem to just be a 3rd party payment option. I have to show Canada Post my QR code. Doing that in the next hour lol

The app worked pretty slick, took a picture, I paid the $5.14 and in theory it ships no problem now. Think there was an option to manually input.

Going forward we have a choice to use Commercial shippers, who take care of the Duty collection from the Receiver. Or pay it up front, and undoubtedly bake the price in, prior to selling.

It will be really interesting to see how, and if the AI focused app, is distinguishing between a pic of casino used RHCs vs minty THCs.

Agree!

Yes, I was also thinking the accuracy of the app estimates could be a concern and risk to the seller. That’s a valid point for sure.

Here's a quick test run. You can also edit, the item, but the below is just take a pic and submit.

Motor City fracs valued at 0.25 CAD each.

Empress Star fracs valued at 1.00 CAD each.

Duty to be paid.

That’s pretty slick, wonder how they are getting the valuation on the chip (outside of face value). Probably eBay - lol.

Except for the 30% of course, that’s painful.. ouch.

As I understand it, Paulson's are made in Mexico, or maybe the USA?
Regardless, the Harmonized Tariff Schedule should be 9504.90.60

The Tariff Schedule (9506.99) listed by the app seems to be sports equipment?

Not sure what the implications would be in cost of duties if this was actually identified correctly...

That's where they can be edited too. I could see if Mexico returns a better rate, and knew at least some were manufactured there. You can select Countries of Origin, in this case I had "I don't know" selected by default, and it came up with China.

I had a Steel tariff applied🤦‍♂️ on the chips prior to this last batch.

When you hand someone new their starting stack after teaching them the basic rules of poker and they get baited to go all in preflop and get knocked out so they don't have anything to do for the next 2 hours lol.

Do they have preflop pot-limit tournaments is that a thing, or is it all no limits?

People that ask to be added to my distribution list, and never ever reply to an invite or email.

People that ask to add a friend to my distribution list and again, never reply to an email or invitation.

I generally leave people on for a year and then remove them. I mean, I get it, life happens, but over the course of a year, not 1 single response??? Whatever.

We will usually reach out to them once.

"We noticed that you have not replied to previous invites with either a yes or no. We do not want to appear to be spamming you, so we will take you off the invite list. If you are still interested, let us know and we will add you back to the list."

We don't even give a them year. Three games is standard.

Sorry for your loss Ben.

Ahhh, the great Frederick Fair. We used to go all of the time. The smell of animal crap from all over and the nut jobs that hang out there.

That’s home for me.

CPC chips not fitting inside a standard Justin rack is upsetting. Do they offer any storage solutions or are there any storage solutions that fit 20cpc /rack closed?

Those rounders chips wouldve been my main set and I wouldve got like 20k in rounders chips instead of the ~50k in Tigers that I got instead.

67.7 key west racks from @dennis63

Justin was working on 39mm CPC sized racks, but I don’t know where that project stands.

Rounders and Tigers are pretty far apart in every way, it was the storage that pushed you one way? Honest question.

So, we can officially ship packages to America from Switzerland again....

Here's the costs of tariffs and handling fees (all charged to the shipper 1-2 months after package delivery) for a package with a theoretical value of CHF 80 (approx $100 USD):

Screenshot 2025-09-21 at 19.31.54.webp

And then add the normal shipping costs on top of that! :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:

What a clusterf•ck.
