Is there a benefit to the outer black/white rings? I've seen those as well as just clear acrylic. Is it just a looks preference or is it better for storage?
I prefer Air-Tites with the rings as they can accommodate a larger range of chip diameters with the same capsule size. (Type-I for 38mm-40mm chip diameter). For me, it's easier and cleaner to have the uniform capsules for storage and display.

AFAK, there are no Air-Tite direct fit capsules for 50mm diameter chips, so the 'mini-frisbees' need to be in the largest Air-Tites with the rings.

[EDIT] - There's nothing wrong with the direct fit capsules, but one has to be careful that they are fitting the chip into the correct size capsule. I have had some chips I have (temporarily) put in a direct-fit and they fit so closely that I had to carefully destroy the capsule to remove the chip later on. The foam rings are flexible enough that one is unlikely to damage the chip either putting it in the capsule or removing it.
