For those who may not know, that particular Riviera $5, Limited Edition gaming chip was created in defiance of an unwritten policy position by Nevada Gaming Control, which prohibited the use of the name: "Casino Chip & Gaming Token Collectors Club" (
CC>CC), or their logo, on gaming chips. Prior to this, the
CC>CC (now the CCA) would solicit the cooperation of any casino, and especially the host casinos, to commemorate their annual Conventions. The Riviera was Host to 5
CC>CC Conventions from 2004 - 2008. These were volatile years in the history of Limited Edition gaming chip production (and active collectors), where, in 2008, along with the great hit to the US economy, Limited Edition chips nearly stopped being made, except for major, popular holidays and residencies. But, in 2005, the Riviera, which was a major player in the Limited Edition gaming chip release activity, did this tongue-in-cheek "Potato Chip" chip, which was released during the
CC>CC Convention at the Riviera that year.
