Well technically it's a linen finish on top of a paper card. That's the easiest way to understand it.
Yeah, you were right. Did some searching too, Hoyle used a "nevada finish" which to your point is just textured paper/plastic coating.

I'm used to linen cards that look somewhat similar (e.g. air cushion) that just have the holes in the texture throughout and always assumed my Hoyles were linen. My bad!

Well, they don’t seem crazy durable so we will see how long they last lol

They're not meant to be very durable. Most casinos use cards for one night, probably only a few hours and get rid of them.

Don't expect too much out of them! That's why you see most older casino decks or playing cards are bowed, warped or have some defect after hours and hours of use.

This is my first set of poker chips!

Thanks to @Chris Manzoni for his Home Poker Cash Game and Tournament Tutorial videos!

Using his numbers, I built this set to be flexible across a 5¢/10¢ cash game for 10 players, a 25¢/50¢ cash game for 10, and a T20,000 tournament for up to 20. I also built it for travel, where I'll know ahead of time what stakes I'm playing on the particular night, so I'm not concerned about tournament chips showing up in a cash game or anything like that. I run a tight ship where every chip is accounted for at the end of the night.

Starting Stacks:
5¢/10¢ Blinds | $20 Buy-In (200 Big Blinds) | $40 Rebuy
5¢ x 10
25¢ x 18
100¢/$1 x 15
25¢/50¢ Blinds | $50 Buy-In (100 Big Blinds) | $100 Rebuy
25¢ x 20
100¢/$1 x 20
500¢/$5 x 5
T20,000 tournament
T25 x 8
T100 x 8
T500 x 6
T1000 x 6
T5000 x 2

Total Chip Counts:
5¢ x 100
25¢/T25 x 200
100¢/T100 x 200
500¢/T500 x 200
T1000 x 200
T5000 x 100

These are the Royal Flush poker chips from Discount Poker Shop. This particular set of 1,000 chips can be built there for $100. Their basic chip racks fit these chips really well, and the Versa chip carrier is great for travel!

I think this is a really good beginner set. I'm looking at the Royal Card Room chips from Apache Poker Chips, or the DDLM chips from BR Pro Poker for my next set, where I'll save up some money for an investment into a higher-quality set.

Thanks to @Hotus777 for helping me complete the set that first caught my eye when I began my chipping journey. Didn’t think I’d ever find these in such minty condition. I’ve never seen the $1 and $5 chips in such perfect condition. Ended up with too many $25 and $100 chips, but they’ll find a nice home somewhere in the classifieds.
