The “Official”JeepologyOffroad HipHop thread (2 Viewers)

I think they could’ve chose any music genre or done tv or books or movies and it would’ve been solid.

….and they have a new album…nice - got my background music for the day.

Question - controversial - Apple music classifies them as hip-hip/rap - what is the difference???

I grew up with the term “rap” - “hip/hop” was more of a modern term that i associated to a style not a replacement of rap so confused to see them together.

I don’t think I’ve heard a single single from that, had no clue. Man I’m really hoping it’s not garbage  :ROFLMAO:

And the other, oh boy. I had fun writing a 100 page essay dissertation on my opinion regarding your question as a writing exercise while I wait for my car, but I’ll just leave the google response of:

“Hip hop is a broader cultural movement that includes music, while rap is a specific musical genre within hip hop”

..so far so good on the new album - can’t complain.

I agree with you and Google on your short version. Apple has it labeled as “Hip-Hop/Rap” so i guess that vibes - record stores back in tge day had a “rap” section - not a hip hop section - so that is how always thought of it.

I also have electronic music interests - and labels there annoy. A Taylor swift remix is not techno 🤣 (..don’t know if that exists - just wanted to illustrate my point)

Given my signature I should probably have already posted this one:

And because sorry if you listened to that, let me give you a better song with a T&T reference:

On that note, wonder what folks' favorite pop culture reference is in hip hop songs. Mine has to be Martin and the amount of Gina references. Googling I can't find my favorite one that includes "damn Gina", I thought it was J Cole but it appears not.

I know there's a ton of em. I'll give a shoutout to Kanye for the lines "Feelin like Katrina with no Fema, Like Martin with no Gina".

Fav overarching pop culture topic would be Martin, but my fav all time individual reference comes from ya boy Gambino:

Kind of sticking with Kanye, but Chance the Rapper has this line in Ultralight Beam:

“Treat the demons just like Pam, I mean I f*** with your friends, but damn Gina”

Bonus points for also having Pam in the reference, too.

Unnnnnnnnn that’s a jam right there. Chance crushes that spot.

I’m not saying he’s Rembrandt, but Kanye definitely was my artist who made me think a “singer” could really be an artist.

That man had some gifts to give the world. I hope him and his family can find their peace.

I agree with all of this, and “old Kanye” is still in my regular listening (…and sneaker…) rotation.

Ultralight Beam remains a song I will always sing at the top of my lungs if I’m alone and it comes on. The Chance verse is just nuts. That and the Pusha T verse on So Appalled are my two favorite features on his songs.
