Is that how it’s supposed to be? Because I play Chinese with a buddy almost once a month, and we play pineapple, and honestly, fantasylands don’t seem to be profitable enough. The extra card makes sense.

For pineapple yeah, that's the standard rule. You get a 14th to help balance out the extra strength of hands and you throw one out as you would on the draw.
