I was looking at some old footage of WSOP main events high roller tournaments and thought the big denom chips would be a cool tournament to host. I searched but might have missed a T5000 base tournament starting stack and blind structure. Does anyone have a 20 minute blind structure?
Thanks

Since modern chips come in denominations of 1-5-25-100-500, in multiples of thousands, millions, etc, you could look up other T5 structures and multiply by a thousand if you don't like the one below. With 20 minute levels, you should be finished in around 5 hours plus breaks for a single table, or about 5.5 hours with 2 tables (subtract half an hour if you play a freezeout).

Here's my recommendation:

T1500 starting stacks:
10 x T5
10 x T25
7 x T100
1 x T500
----------------
28 chips = T1500

Use 1xT500 and 1xT1000 for all T1500 re-buys and add-ons. 7 x T100 starting chips is plenty when using a T5-based structure.

The set below covers roughly 127 x T1500 buy-ins (27 starting stacks and 100 x T1500 re-buys/add-ons):

270 x T5
270 x T25
200 x T100 (includes extras for T5 color-up)
140 x T500 (includes extras for T25 color-up and 100x re-buys/add-ons)
100 x T1000 (used for 100x re-buys/add-ons only)
20 x T5000 (used for T100 and T500 color-ups only)
----------------
1000 chips

The actual numbers required are 270/270/203/141/19 = 1003, but given that the 100 re-buys/add-ons is not a concrete number, the slightly rounded numbers above should be just fine.

Dunno what structure is being used, but I do have a T5-based structure with 20-minute blinds that lasts 7+ hours (plus breaks) for 127 x 1500 buy-ins.

You can add additional early levels (5/10 and/or 5/15), but I think 75BB stacks are just about perfect for charity re-buy events. I'd run re-buys for the first five levels followed by the add-on at the first color-up break.
Here’s a 3 table T5 structure from @BGinGA that uses 20 minute levels—it scales to T5000 assuming you’ll have T1,000,000 and T5,000,000 for rebuys, add-ons, and color ups.

This is for a charity tournament, though. The blinds begin with only 75BB for a starting stack, where you usually want 200BB to start normally (at least 150 is good if the first increase is only 50%). The structure is fine, but start with 3-4M per person if you go with that structure.

What do think of adding Ante’s equal to the BB after the first break? How does that effect play, structure, feel, outcome…? New to tournaments so not sure. Thanks

I wouldn’t use antes. Tournaments already put a lot of pressure on people to make moves as “time is running out”, blinds increase and average big blinds drop fairly quickly.

I would just create a blind structure that finishes the game in around the time you’re looking for.

It's not especially necessary. I think you mean the big blind ante which only the big blind pays if it's used, but I wouldn't recommend it especially for somebody new to tournaments.

Thank you all for the responses and recommendations. I really like RealStephen’s structure, but with 18 min levels and the following starting stacks; 5K, 25K, 100K and 500K at 10/10/7/1 for 300BB or 1.5M chip value. Thoughts on the starting stack?

I plan on having a STT 10 max and I figure 20 starting stacks that would also cover rebuys at 1 per player. So my chip order would be 200 5K, 200 25K, 150 100K and 25 500K. I will add 1M and 5M chips to the line up, just not sure how many? 100 1M chips for rebuys and 25 5M for color ups? Thoughts on chip count?

So the rebuy thing is what I’m struggling with the most. In this structure rebuys end at the first break where the SB/BB are in multiples of 5K and I read that rebuys would be with 1 1M and 1 500K chip. To me this doesn’t makes sense as change at the table hard with such low denom chips on the table; so what would I use to make rebuys reasonable?

I would love to build this tourney into a 2 table, but that is down the road. Thanks

Here's a standard T5 setup, just pretend it reads in thousands.

For rebuys you would just give the players 3 T500K chips. Then they go and make change at the table, keeps it very easy for rebuys.

If you wanted a single table you would need 300 chips, multi table 600 chips. This breakdown allows exactly 1 rebuy each (but typically you only see about 50% rebuys in tournaments), but it doesn't allow for 1 rebuy and colouring up your chips, so if everyone happens to rebuy in a night you'll run into some trouble. If you wanted to be safer about it you could instead have 30 T500K chips and then 10 T1M plaques on the side if ever needed.
