I'm planning a dealer's choice cash game in hopes of getting my group to venture away from NLHE tourneys. Before the hold 'em boom poker night consisted of grabbing the change jar and playing 5 card draw, 7 card or one of its wild card variants (chase the ace, shady lady, etc.). A throwback night sounds fun and would be a nice change of pace.

We never used a low card bring in though. We always played high door card had option to check or bet. I assumed that to be standard for home games.

So I'm curious. For those of you that play 7 card in your home game do you use a low card bring in? Why or why not? Any other differences in your game vs. standard rules?

I played very little of the kitchen table poker games before the poker boom... but I did play.

In the past few years, I have introduced my players to "casino style" mixed games... i.e. HORSE, etc. So we always use "low card"... or rather "worst card" bring-in. For Razz, the bring-in is the high door card.

I think the good thing about the forced bring-in is that it forces the action. Similar to blinds in flop games.

We do try to stick to low card bring-in (or high card if Razz) just to keep it close to “correct”. But we don’t play Stud as much as I’d like.
