Robert Redford was known for his roles in The Sting and Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid, and won an Oscar as a director.

Born in Los Angeles county, he began appearing on stage in the late 1950s, before starting a television career in 1960 and making his film debut in War Hunt.

He received an Oscar nomination for best actor for his performance in The Sting in 1973.

In 1980, he made his directorial debut with Ordinary People, which won four Academy Awards, including best picture and best director.

He won an honorary lifetime achievement Oscar in 2002.

Redford was also known for founding the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, promoting independent films.

In 2018, he announced the film, The Old Man and The Gun, would be his last onscreen role.

Great shame but a great life. I love that he aged so gracefully. RIP.

The Sting is still as fresh as it was when first released.

Well, you guys just named my three favorites. All I can add is that All Is Lost was surprisingly good. Nice bit of filmmaking there.

Also Barefoot in the Park and All The President’s Men. Two different Redford eras, and great films.

Out of Africa and Sneakers.

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
...in a major motion picture in 1992! Robert Redford, Ben Kingsley, Dan Aykroyd, Sidney Poitier, River Phoenix, David Strathairn, Timothy Busfield, Eddie Jones, Mary McDonnell, and James Earl Jones all in the same movie. I will watch this any day of the week.

Ah man, RIP Mr. Redford. I have no idea how many times I’ve watched The Sting. Feels like it’s time for another rewatch

Sneakers is definitely one of the forgotten Robert Redford movies and it was a very enjoyable (and strangely topical/prescient) flick at the time. Poitier and Aykroyd bantering back and forth was a lot of fun and the cast all looked like they were having a good time making it.

Another one I literally forgot he was in was Legal Eagles, then I saw it as a streaming option awhile back.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting and All The President's Men are the highest quality movies he's ever been in, but in terms of "Redford movies" I'll always have a soft spot for Three Days of the Condor and Jeremiah Johnson, with The Natural being a honorary mention.

That ain't Roy Hobbs. Pretty sure he wasn't smiling either.

Ooops, I forgot all about this one, which is a really good sports movie starring Redford and Hackman in a classic 2-hander.

And another forgotten Redford movie that is eerily prescient of the future politics in America. Plus it had a perfect ending.

Man, this guy had quite a career. RIP
