I have a cash set as follows:

100 x NCV
100 x 25c
40 x 50c
200 x $1
100 x $5
20 x $20

Without adding extra racks to this set (which I may consider sometime in the future) what starting stacks would you use?

This would be for a 5c/10c game, a 10c/10c game or a 25c/25c game.

The NCV chips can be utilised as either a 5c chip or extra 25c chips.

^^^

Give the first 5 players a barrel each of the lowest 2 denoms, plus whatever bigger chips to complete the buy-in. Later buy-ins get bigger chips, and make change at the table.

For 5/10¢, assuming $10 buy-in: 20/20/4. Later buy-ins get 10 $1's and make change.

For 25/25¢, assuming $25 buy-in: 20/20. Later buying get 20 $1's and a $5.

For 10 players and 5c/10c or 10c/10c
5c x 10
25c x 10
$1 x 7
Total $10 buy-in (100 BB). With 10 players all your 5c and 25c will be on the table so rebuys will be 10x $1 until you run out of $1.

8 to 10 players and 25c/25c
25c x 12 (for first 8 players)
$1 x 17 ($1 x 20 for players 9 & 10)
Total $20 buy-in (80 BB). With 8 players all your 25c will be on the table so the first few rebuys will be 20x $1 until you run out of $1.

Personally, I like to get the rack of fracs on the table initially and then not to add any more. Do not use your NCVs as 25c in your 25c/25c game - you don't need them. Also, I like to give rebuys in $1 until they're all on the table. My guys will tend to hoard the $5s and won't bet them so I get more action if I leave them off the table until I have at least 200 $1s in play.

What are your buyins

Usually I have $5-$20 buy-ins with most going in for $10. Some games guys buy in at just $20.

Also ummmm NO pictures? That's one demerit.

I do apologise!

Agreed. So for 5c-10c you obviously need to your NCV as 5c. I would say the first 5 players get 20/20/x of 5c/25c/1 for whatever number of x you need to make your buy in.

You probably will wish you had one more rack of 25c (at least) however. But I don't like using the 50c in this set up because it's a needless 4th denom that will just complicate stack counting.

If you’re playing NLHE .50/.50 or .50/1. Or maybe.10/.20 with dimes

Agreed, so consider a setup using NCV as 10c and do a 10c-50c-1 scenario. I have only thought about this, I have never done it in practice.

But then you would do 5 starting stacks of 20/8/x of 10c/50c/1 and the rest in ones. This seems it should work for 10c or 10c-20c. The debate in my head is essentially forcing the workhorse chip to the single to high.

As for .25-.25 or .25-.50 (or .50-.50) for that matter you have a pretty good setup. Just distribute all the small chips at the outset. You might wish you had more singles and fives if you do get into .25-.50 or .50-1 but it is probably okay as is.

As for which chips, that's a tough call, you probably need 500-600 and your budget has you right on the edge of China Clays (Milano, majestic).

If that's out of reach I like the claysmith plastics just fine. (Desert Heat, Poker knights, etc...)

The problem is there really aren't any stock nickels anymore. So maybe the simplest thing to do is just plan .25-.25 blinds and get 100/300/100 of 25c/1/5. Bank of 825 covers 41 buy ins and still some upward flexibility.
