I see people are starting to recieve their orders of the Cinci horseshoes chips now. I'm sure we will get threads with specific pron from that set, but this is a request to those who have been getting both sets. Maybe you could do some side by side comparison to show them off in pics together. Maybe someone is also doing mixed sets with some denoms from one casino and some from the other?

And maybe we could get some photos showing the amount of wear on the different denoms from the different casinos?

All pics with chips from both casinos are welcome in this thread! I did not buy the cinci's because my budget was already blown on the clevelands, so it would be very cool to see some juicy pron!

One to get the thread started...

I should be done cleaning mine later tonight and can do some comparison shots with $1s, $5s and $25s tomorrow.

Just from cleaning the $5s last night it seems that the Cincinnati chips are in overall better shape, but I received no commems (about 8% overall from my Cleveland chips) and no mint chips as these were filtered out for other sets (about 2% overall from my Cleveland chips.) I also cleaned the snappers last night but I never had primary snappers from Cleveland so no comparison to make for me there.

The $1s will be cleaned tonight and I should have some more observations.

Here's a quick photo for now after all have been cleaned. When I have some more time later I'll get deeper into more photos of each denom lined up next to the other, closer condition photos, etc.

Overall I feel confident in saying that my batch of Cincy chips are in moderately better condition than my batch of Cleveland chips. My setups/quantities aren't exactly the same and it is a small sample size so others' results may vary.

Both good looking sets for sure! The cinci snapper looks really jummy.

If I decide to keep the set that'll be relabeled as my quarter. I have something else in the works for the Cleveland quarter, but I've been struggling for like 2 months to get it right/find something I am happy with.

There's a decent chance I can't talk myself into keeping both of these sets, so I'll be relying largely on seeing them both once I have all the parts in and also seeing what people on here think.

Cool. I look forward to more comparisons from you later in this thread!

I probably should have put some kind of plan together for this but I just kinda started stacking things.

All shots for comparison of chips in the rack used the same rack (inscribed 66.7 on the bottom, no brand name)

I grabbed a completely random sampling of chips from my entire set for comparison shots. Please keep in mind this is a small sample size and may not be accurate for all sets.

My general observation is that the Cincy chips are about a half chip taller per barrel for the $5 and $25 denoms, and about a quarter to a half chip taller for the $1 denom.

Edge wear/flea bites are overall pretty similar, but my Cincy $25s have a lot more scratches on the faces of the chips for whatever reason. They may just be more visible due the color.

If anybody has any specific photo requests let me know and I'll do my best to capture whatever situation you'd like to see.

i had noticed that the cleveland chips have a gold horseshoe and words and white numbers compared to cincinnati chips have a faded white/grey horseshoe and words and gold numbers.

i only just now noticed that the cleveland chips have the horseshoe separate from the words, and the cincinnati chips have the horseshoe superimposed on the words.

I know, just didn't realize that the inlays were different sizes. Looking forward to getting my Cincy RHC 1's!

Standard inlay (7/8") on Cleveland $1 (THC), Grand inlay (1-1/16") on Cincinnati $1 (RHC). Pretty standard pairings for those inlays/molds.

@btbmason how did you clean? mine come in tomorrow!!

**IMPORTANT - Before trying ANY form of cleaning on a large quantity of chip, try the method with 1 or 2 chips you don't mind losing just in case you get a result you aren't happy with.**

Plastic container, squeezed a layer of Dawn Ultra dish soap in the bottom of it, added a layer of OxiClean (powder) on top, added hot water, stirred with a rubber spatula, dropped in 60 chips (preferably of the same color, but this may not be necessary I'm just cautious/weird), stirred with a rubber spatula and let sit for 10 minutes in the soapy water, stirring every few minutes.

I bought a brush at Dollar Tree (oblong/almost a squared rectangle), take 12 chips out at a time and put them in a stack, then brush the edges of the stack of chips while rotating. Then I brush each chip face front and back one at a time and put them in another smaller plastic container with warm water. Once those 12 chips are in the other water I stir the soapy container again, and pull each of the 12 chips out 1 by 1 to wipe them down with a microfiber cloth, then lay them to dry.

I change the water/soap every 60 chips but that's probably overkill honestly. You can probably just add more hot water and soap/OxiClean without needing to change it, but it just looks gross. You can also do without the OxiClean (I did many batches without it) but I found it gets better results. This may be at the cost of "drying out" the chips a tad bit more, but you can always oil them to bring the color back.

There's a thread with some more info/photos here. I used the same process/method on Horseshoe Cleveland chips and got the same results. - https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/cleaning-the-horseshoes-by-hand.15017/

Everyone will tell you to get an ultrasonic cleaner. They are probably right, but this is way cheaper albeit time consuming. Put on some music or your favorite TV show and make a night of it!

not *everyone*. i happen to enjoy handling each and every chip, one at a time. i enjoy looking closely at each one.

i also find i get the least color fading, especially on the corners, by cleaning them using dawn (no oxiclean) and warm water with a toothbrush, and just rinsing with clean cold water before laying out to air dry. then a quick wipe on each fact with magic eraser, and hit the edges of a mini-barrel with the magic eraser every 5-10 chips or so. i take a perverse pride in stacking my chips and not having any white(ish) lines of demarcation between them.

i freely admit it takes a lot longer this way.

I cleaned all my Cleveland chips by hand. I soaked then in a TSP and dawn in warm water mixture for ten minutes. They cleaned right up with a quick brush per side. VERY easy job, as far as hand cleaning goes.

everyone seems to talk about TSP and love it, but you haven't used it? my first real chips, so i'm actually looking forward to cleaning by hand

I've never tried it. My strategy was to start out as simple as possible (water, soap) and then add things if I noticed I wasn't getting good enough results, which is why I added OxiClean. I haven't looked at any of my chips since then and thought that they needed to be any more clean.

Oh I did buy some magic erasers, but have only used them to clean off rack check marks or especially tough spots.

Here are some tasty morsels of Cleveland and Cincinnati "heads-up" and yes I know I used Cincinnati primary 1k's in the secondary set, but I just couldn't buy the secondary 1k chips, I tried to talk myself into it to be pure to the set, but I just don't like the colors, and the 1k primary is actually pretty cool in person and all cleaned up. in case you are wondering, I have the pink snappers for bounty chips in both sets, and then the cash set is added in for the last few pictures, actually have 200 more snappers not shown and 100 more $2 not shown as well. enjoy!

Thanks! Appreciate the feedback. I have two of those frames, they hold about 50 chips each... have all my favorite chips I've collected, mostly Vegas chips, they are pretty full now after adding the horseshoe chips might have to get another!

@btshat you have to tell me how much total money spent on that? holy crap
I try not to think about that :) it's more of an investment right? Unfortunately, I didn't get any of the Clevelands from the PCF sales from Jim either, they are mostly from eBay or classifieds here... so pretty much paid secondary market prices for everything :( apparently I'm either too slow or don't know the trick to getting chips on the forum sales. really love both of these sets though!

well i'm a newbee and never thought about an investment, but it seems they hold their value. Now how do we get to be someone like Jim or Todd and get in on the ground floor? Did they win an auction or something?

That I don't know, sounds to me like they have been doing it awhile and probably know the right people to talk to... you'd also have to have 100k or more to get them... the Clevelands purchase was around 350,000 chips even if he got them at 25 cents each that would still be nearly 100k, I'm guessing he paid more than that for the larger size chips too... it's not a trivial investment to do a casino chip buyout...

Living in the UK, and not having nearly enough spare cash to buy any of the amazing sets I see on this site, I feel like a starving street urchin with his face pressed up against a window, watching people inside gathered around a roaring fire.

The recent HS sales only makes it worse, because these are absolutely gorgeous, amazing, beautiful chips.

Sigh....
