I'm still unclear what is meant by "primary" and "secondary" casino chips. For example, my card room uses some older RHC's and some newer house mold chips. They are both live and in play at the same time. Would these be called primary (RHC) and secondary (house mold)?

The primary set is the main chips in use. Secondary set is a backup set that are typically slightly different in case of counterfeits, etc.

The reason you are seeing two different molds is not due to primary/secondary it is because at some point when the casino ordered more chips they decided or were talked into house molds. The secondary set usually only sees play if the primary is compromised due to theft.

Secondary sets, especially higher denominations $25's & up are usually required by the gaming commissions as backups for when/if the primary set is compromised.

And it's actually good for chippers that most secondary sets don't see the light of day. All of the mint casinos Paulsons released into the wild are from secondary sets.

And sometimes the secondary's set design blows away the primary's set (see PCA and GV for instance). Frankly I'm happy when that happens and Jim swoops in for some awesome chipes, but what is the casino thinking?
