Usually from pai gow poker tables. They're very hard to harvest since you can't just walk up to the cage and drop $25 on the counter and take a rack. The pit bosses/dealers keep a close eye on them and (in my experience) color them up for you once you get even a semi-decent pile stacked up.

This exactly....and even if you have only 3 or 4 quarters in your stack, the dealers ask for your quarters when you pay your commission.
I try to slowly rathole them without dealers or pit bosses noticing.....takes a lot of time.
And, usually there's very few in the dealer's tray....only about 20 to 30, in my experiences.

Yeah. As stated above. In my numerous runs I have found MotorCity to be the toughest. Over the mini-baccarat tables there is always a dedicated pit boss watching the action. They don't rotate their dealers very often except for breaks and they just aren't friendly.

All the above. I got most of my original two racks of Greektown quarters by standing around the pai gow, etc. tables and paying players $1 for each quarter chip they received from the dealer. Casino staff wasn't overly happy, but didn't interfere.

You can almost take it to the bank that there are more Detroit quarters (all three venues) in the wild than are currently in play in the casinos. They left the facilities at lightening speed way back when.

Couple ideas:

1) had a contact in the casino with sticky fingers
2) maybe a new cage worker had no idea they weren't supposed to give them out by the rack(s)
3) spent tons of time sneaking them out 3 or 4 at a time

I have a Red Wing table, so I want to build a Detroit chip set....these are beauty's too.

They are not. They are the newer series. Bobb59"s are very hard to get....well even harder than these. Well worth the $$$
