Afternoon all!

Bit of a weird one but my US to UK shipper (https://www.shipito.com/en/) just informed me that it is illegal to post poker chips to the UK!

Poker chips are listed under gambling here https://www.shipito.com/en/help/tutorials/prohibited-items as prohibited items.

I checked another vendor MyUS https://www.myus.com/benefits/shipping/customs-help/restrictions/ while not mentioning poker chips they talk about gambling devices.

Anyone ever come across this before in the US? Seems complete madness to me - I have had many many orders with CPC for example that had 0 issues not to mention just sending direct with USPS with 0 issues. I cannot see a law against it anywhere.

Its certainly not a UK thing!

Yeah, I would definitely categorize them as vintage collectables or collectable tokens. By this logic, what isn't gambling related? I could, in theory, use M&Ms, right? Are they banned too?

I label all chips internationally as Gaming chips.

I have always used gaming chips or game tokens. All it takes is some conservative newbie or someone having a bad day to ruin a shipment and create a lot of stress.

"Used Toy Tokens" is handy, also.

I had a foreign buyer ask me to write "numismatic" items or collectibles as the description on a package. I had never heard that term, but turns out it's a word for collecting coins and tokens.
Nomisma is indeed the Greek for a specific currency (litteraly meaning "belief, perception", exactly because the value is perceived and believed in).
Haven't you heard of nomismatic plethora?:p (inflation:D). It can lead to chaos and catastrophe:LOL:

For more Greek English, here is a whole speech delivered at the World Bank by the then Greece's Central Bank Governor (only articles, prepositions, the verb to be and auxiliary verbs are English:

Yep. Ran into the same issue when I tried to set up a reshipping address in the US. The way I understood the rule, only live casino chips, or tokens that could be redeemed for cash, were in scope, but the company just decided they wouldn’t reship anything.

Not quite sure if the issue is with reshipping companies (you can’t send cash or cash equivalents equivalents across borders and they don’t want to take any risk) or with customs. In practice, « Used poker chips » « casino memorabilia » « Poker chips » all worked when I bought from members based in the US.
So I guess they don’t actually care?

At the end of the day customs might just consider them « toys » :dead: fine with me!

Customs might care (on both sides of the shipment, also intermediaries, depending on the countries involved)... if they "decide" that it's considered money, you might have problems...

Well certainly UK customs don’t seem to care much! 30 odd packages and counting all labelled poker chips.
That’s a good thing
