Wife is asking me what I want for Christmas and I would like a couple of new poker books. I know there is a lot of online content, but I need a book or two I can read on a cruise. Looking for recommendations.
Books I have: (These were all purchased years ago)
Small stakes hold'em - winning big with expert play (Miller, Sklansky, Malmuth)
Hold'em poker - for advanced players (Sklansky, Malmuth)
The Theory of Poker (Sklansky)
No Limit Hold'em - Theory and Practice (Sklansky, Miller)
Phil Gordon's Little Blue Book
Doyle Brunson - Poker Wisdom of a champion (My favorite book - I enjoyed the stories and history of poker.)
I've been playing Hold'em tournaments for 10+ years and over the last couple of years I have started playing more cash games. These are mostly home games and are low stakes. I do well against known players but struggle against unknown players. I play in two monthly tournament leagues and host a monthly game where we play a combination of tournaments and cash. I am a consistent winner in these games but I know these players and can outplay most of them. I have also played in a weekly online league where I have won a couple of free trips to Vegas to play in WSOP event. As I learned the online players, the better I did.
I seldom do well going to a new game and have played in my local casino daily tournaments and have not done well. This is a small sample but it is a pattern. FYI - Some of the players in my leagues and home game do very well at the casino.
Looking to get better. Don't think I need a hardcore book about the math of poker, looking more for assigning had ranges and new strategies against random players. Also looking for any entertaining books about poker. Any recommendations?
