With standard colors, it's not confusing at all.
Even if non-standard, people mostly work in three colors, and they're quick to pick up on them... and if there's a fourth color, a bank chip, it's rare and gets quickly remembered.
This is why I'm good with small and relatively hard-to-see denoms in chip art. You don't really need to always clearly see the denom across the table. If a big denom looks good on the art, great - but if not, I think too many feel obligated to put it there without good reason.
