I had a member here, after sending me the chips and realizing that there were a few chips that had minor defects that weren't described in the ad, decided on his own to refund me what I thought was a significant amount in relation to the actual purchase price. I told him not to send a refund because it wasn't that big of a deal and I couldn't find the defects that he described. He sent the refund anyway. (That member ID starts with a D :whistle: :whistling:)

I think members like him represent many of the people here. We deal with each other based on almost nothing but an honor system. I have never met anyone of you, but I feel very comfortable sending a couple of $1K via PayPal FF. So yeah, forums like this are special.

Latest two quotes from Palm posted this morning
#27 it is- and most of those customers came from Chiptalk. When we get emails asking for deals- its ALWAYS from chiptalk members and rarely if ever from anywhere else. (This was in response to a post about posting at "the other site" where they are a sponsor.)
#28 if theres enough interest in the next 10 days we'll put up a poll if not we'll just close this thread.

As far as I know the only way to become a member is to get @abby99 to set you up. She is the only one that has ever answered any messages. She is the only reason the info over there is still accessible.
I am going to stop there because I do not want anyone to think this is another "hate" post when it is actually a "truth" post.
 
I read the post from Joe. Wow! I guess the 100 racks I bought from him as a PCF member don't count either. You have to ask yourself why he would even post as he did.

I wonder if when you (or I or others) send him an email with a request for racks, does he consider that from a CT member (since we're both CT members). By that logic, perhaps a large majority of his customers did in fact "come from Chiptalk".
 
There has to be more to the story. IMO, a business owner or manager would not ignore, alienate or stifle a large customer base without reason. Not sure if his post was trying to do that but that's how I took it.
As a business person the decision would be easy. Activity versus no activity. Where is my customer pool?
Just one more reason to start looking for other sources for my needs. I will base my decision off of lack of response and shipping costs going forward.

It's been evident from the beginning that we (chipper hobbyists) are not even close to a substantial chunk of his customer base. And the way he runs his business has historically been.....well, "interesting"....to say the least. That's been discussed ad nauseum in other threads though.
 
I've read about "Mom and Pop" businesses that tried to remain open well after the demographics of the neighborhood shifted to the point that the streets were unsafe, and most of their loyal customers had moved to the 'burbs. Not that you'll get mugged on CT - but there are some parallels to be drawn.
 
Joe has always perplexed me and fascinated me at the same time. He always struck me as Tony Soprano trying to run a poker supply company. He is full of "listen to no-one" attitude and bullying his way through seems to be the only tool in his bag. I think that during the poker boom years, he could do no wrong and business would come to him in spades (pun intended). He firmly entrenched himself as a key supplier of china-based junk that could be customized which fueled our desire to realize our personalized poker rooms. He has always been terrible at communication and marginal in his ethics, but now that the boom has ended, his rough edges and questionable business savvy can't be helping him and his business.

Every order I placed with him had issues; errors in production, misrepresented products, poor customer service. I was willing to fight through them when I had to have custom labeled china clays or printed ceramics, but those days are long gone.

I've never bought anything from him, so I can't speak to quality, but I've heard enough stories like @dajebriza's above to not feel like I'm missing anything.

Joe seems like a giant bag of good intentions, without the requisite follow through.

I was sad (but not surprised) when he failed to get the clay chip equipment going.

I honestly don't know why he tries to attract our business. We're a very demanding group. I can't imagine how we generate enough business to be worth it.
 
He did my original bounties and seating plaques and they came out AWFUL. He seemed kind of non plussed by it but in all fairness he did give me a full refund without hassle.

When they do it right, their custom ceramics and laminated labels are second to none. I wouldn't call it a crap-shoot, but it's not a given that you'll get a perfect order every time. I've dealt with Joe many, many times in the past, and it's either been right or been made right. YMMV.
 
I've tried to deal with Joe many times and have since given up ever trying again. The last straw was a run out of ssc, I emailed my order through and never got a response. Asked on CT and was told all emails were responded to, week later get an email saying sold out. All other attempts were similar. He could offer 1¢ ceramics right now and I still wouldn't deal with him. He can run his business however he sees fit, but I lol everytime he asks the community for any type of participation. Too many eff ups with meh responses IMO.

When was the last time you dealt with them? I sent them an email asking about their current custom ceramics and how they compare with the PCF Tournament set. Still waiting for a response. Do you happen to know if they are the same?

I really like GOCC so I might just go with them. Sounds easier to deal with too.

I went straight to GOCC myself. Easy, fast, and they got it right.

Late last year, so within the last 6 months or so. I always send emails to three addresses (Joe, Kim, Barry), to ensure that it is brought to the attention of whoever is dealing with orders. You can also call them.
 
I had good luck with my labels from joe...requested the pcf'er pricing to boot.

Quality was good...communication not the best but ok.
