TLDR: The Pelican 1300 deserves some love here on PCF and I'm just here to share it.
$0.25 for scale.
Long version:
I was looking for a new setup for the slug dice chips my friend group has used for years. It was initially a 500 chip set in a flat metal case - now with dividers broken. Over time the Blues were taken out. More greens added. Then Purple & Yellow Plaques added. Then purple chips added. So when handing off there would be the 500 case and a zip lock bag of MOAR chips.
As they're at my place and I'm a chip nerd now I thought I'd improve the case situation.
I ended up scoring 4 Pelican 1300 cases on FB marketplace for $12.50 each. When I saw them I was pumped but there were no threads here about them. I checked dimensions and took a shot.
Personally, I've never understood why people want a 1 inch layer of padding around their chips. If you're checking them on a plane I get it. Maybe real clays need more padding than I realize as well?
But most of us are carrying chips from car to a house and they have to survive a car ride at worst. Padding wasn't that important to me - especially for this China Slug Dice setup. A compact lighter setup was my preference.
So here it is. 540 chips, 15 plaques, 2 bridge sized decks, some dealer and missed blind buttons, a few lamineers and a cut card.
(There's still blue and white chips on the side but they dont need to be passed around.)
This is a no build solution. No plucking. There isn't even bottom foam at the moment. When I get Justin Racks in I think I'll be able to fit bottom foam and will add and add thin foam to the front as well.
This case is tiny - about 1/2 size of Apache 3800 which plenty of people use for a similar 1 table setup. Without plaques this can accommodate 600 chips.
When Apache 2800 is on sale I may try to fit all chips, even the extra white & blue and go up 1 notch in size. Based on interior dimensions its 43% larger than the Pelican 1300.
