Matchups were determined randomly. I imagine some of you will have a very difficult decision here.

Flamingo Las Vegas (spotted bird)

Grand Casino Gulfport (MS)

Interesting that both of these are made up of the 4 same colors. Blue, yellow, orange, white. Probably not the exact same shades, but very similar.

Easily GCG for me, but both are nice chips in their own way. Heres a better picture of it (Although admittedly it's a bit dirty around the inlay)

One time we were playing taboo. And the word was either toilet, or flush - I forget which. But the clue given has been a phrase that has stuck with my circle of friends for 25 years, and it seems most appropriate here:
Buh bye poop!!!!

Ok, so I'm voting based on what I think is a good $1 vs what is a beautiful chip. Flamingo is very classic and an excellent example of a $1. Gulfport is a more unique and beautiful white base chip, but much better as a Cali $100 than as a $1

Probably should try to show similar photos in these threads, I.e. if showing a minty rack of one, let's show a minty rack of all candidates? Pr0n naturally attracts and this could sway votes in one direction. Either way the result here is clear. Just a thought for next time.

GC is over rated IMO. Not saying the flamingo is better but looking at the option in both semis the final winner is predetermined. Not sure what happened in the QFs but there is a huge bias and groupthink on PCF with regards to certain colours and spot patterns.

I don’t disagree. But I’d argue that the bias toward that spot pattern is because of this exact chip. The Grand Casino Gulfport $1 is the reason why that spot pattern is popular. So question all the other sloth claws or whatever you want to call them, but this one’s the goat.

It's weird, on one hand I can see why it's going to win (and always was) but on the other I just don't like that spot pattern. Too busy for me. Geez I'm gona cop some flack for this  :ROFLMAO: (probs should have posted this in the controversy thread :wtf: )

maybe the next vote series should be spot patterns. my guess is GC doesn't even make top 3 for the claw vote

$1 chips should be simple. That is the complete opposite of simple. I love the Flamingo $1 chip.

Forget spot progression. Low value chips should have low value looks. 25's and 100's can have craziness for inlays. Even 5's can have busy patterns. Fracs and $1's should be simple.
Can’t argue that they traditionally have been simple.
But I love that Gulfport $1, so I’ll fight like a homey badger to defend it.

The Grand Casino logo is super confusing unless its zommed in. Never knew what it was until a few days ago lol.

Lol. You're right. I always thought it was some sort of landscape with mountains and the sun.....

And yes, I've owned multiple and I took this photo:

I disagree :)
It’s only popular because this site certain people hyped it into the stratosphere

I remember years back they were pulling those chips out of the swamp selling buckets full on eBay. They could barely give it away.
Bearclaw edges have now just kinda turned into a big hype here that’s overblown to where I think I don’t even like them much now. 3TA and 4TA are far superior

Don't know about all that. I like the chip because the patterns and colors make it look really fun. White chip main color, bright vibrant festive colors for the edge spots and the fact that the spots aren't touching is part of the spark. Maybe people didn't buy the dirty chips back then becuase they didn't know how and if they could be cleaned well.

I am someone who likes thin spots and edge spots that don't touch too, so maybe that's part of it.

I think 3TA and 4TA are also really great when paired with nice colors and in the right grouping could be pretty amazing.

I’d say the same thing is true about the spotted birds.

I wonder if you’re misremembering or mischaracterizing a bit. I wasn’t in the hobby back then, but I did read all the posts I could find on the topic on the Blue Wall. And I remember people bragging about getting really good prices on them at salvage shops, and other members being jealous and asking for them to go back and get them some.
So yeah, they were filthy swamp chips that were being sold off cheaply, but from what I could tell the chippers were scrambling for them.

Sooo overrated
Not worth the hype price given the majority are in tombs

You could have ordered dirty chips all you wanted I think for weeks

I think some people saw the potential value and gobbled them all up to sit on

That was before we thought of ultrasonic cleaning too. If you had the same sales today I can’t even imagine how many would run to clean and profiteer them
