Hi,

I created the following payout sheet for my tournaments.

For easy calculation, I set a buyin of 10.

What do you think ? Does it make sense ?

Kid.

It's flatter than most of my players would prefer in some spots (for example top 2 getting paid with 5 players), but that's just a personal preference.

My players like the payouts around 25% of the field, so we don't pay two until we hit 8.

Your percentages look alright, but I think you need to level out the table. At 7 players, you're paying 42% of the field and at 5 players you're paying 60%. Meanwhile at 17 players you're paying 19% of the field.

5 players : 40% itm
7 players : 29% itm
17 players : 17% itm

So indeed there are big variations.

In fact I made this on purposes that with more players the number of itm percentage is decreasing.

The goal is to make this ITM % slightly tend to 15-20%.

Fwiw, I don't like this approach.

Obviously yours to do as you please, and if your players like it, go with it. If you usually have 8+ players, it won't matter much.

I'm a math geek ;) and prefer as close to a uniform % as possible.

(You didn't ask but) here's my payouts that I use:

6 or less players - 1st (100%)
7-9 players - 1st (70%) 2nd (30%)
10-15 players - 1st (50%) 2nd (30%) 3rd (20%)
16-20 players - 1st (45%) 2nd (30%) 3rd (15%) 4th (10%)

Too flat 18-20 but I like all the <=17

18 i would much rather play a 80-50-30-20 than 70-55-35-20

19) 85-55-30-20
20) 90-55-35-20 are also better IMO

Thanks for sharing it. I like it.

Good catch for 18 players ! Thanks.

Those places where you make less money for beating more opponents are pretty goofy in my opinion.

What you mean is that the prize of the first place shall never decrease when the number of players increase ?

For instance the face that finishing first out of 17 brings more money than finishing first out of 18 ?

If so, I agree, it tilts me also. That's something I shall definitely fix.

Yeah, exactly. It should probably be in favor of the winner always, even if it means third takes less money.

//I agree with this. Looking at the bottom - 80/60/40/20 - I'd rather see something closer to 100/50/30/20

I reworked my sheet a little bit. It can still be adapted based on your valuable input.
For STT, my group likes the usual SnG payout structures as on the Internet. That's why it's quite flat.

Thanks a lot for sharing.

If I may, there is something I'm not fan with this. For 12 players, the 4th place only gets $12 if the buyin is $10.
And for 17, 18 and 19 players, the prize for the 5th is less than the buyin. For example, for 17 players, it's $8.5 for a buyin of $10.

I know people doing it in other groups, but I don't like. I prefer to spread this money amongst the other ITM. But it's just a matter of preferences, don't get me wrong.

Yeah, I get that. The last place getting paid is usually getting slightly +/- on their money back. The other choice is spread that same money among one less qualifier. My players prefer to spread the wealth a little. Tomato/Tomatoe. Whatever floats the boat. Moral of the story: just win the damn thing.
