I needed help with figuring out what extra chips I require for my recently purchased set along with the ideal starting stacks. Ideally I would like to have a total of 500 chips, so I can fill out a case. (OCD)

Tourney requirement - 10 players, playing either T10000 or T20000.

Chips currently at hand:

25 - 100
100 - 100
500 - 100
1000 - 45
5000 - 12

What would you add/change?

Thanks!

Hmmm...for T10k, I'd probably go with T25x12, T100x12, T500x7, and T1000x5 for starting stacks. For T20k, add T5000x2. I'm assuming no rebuys.

So, for 10 players, you'd need (just starting stacks).

25 - 120
100 - 120
500 - 70
1000 - 50
5000 - 20

You need color-ups and maybe have a few extra of each denom. So, maybe

25 - 125
100 - 125
500 - 100
1000 - 100
5000 - 50

I'm sure someone else will come up with a better breakdown, but it's a start.

My T10,000 set has 120 X $25, 120 X $100, 60 X $500, 80 X $1000 and 20 X $5000 = 500 chips.

Allows for 10 players with 12-12-5-6. 15 X $1,000 chips get used for color-ups, so the only chips left are 10 X $500s + 5 X $1000, which I use for the first rebuy, and the rest of the rebuys I use $5,000 chips.

This uses every chip in the set, allows for 10 players, accounts for color ups, has ample rebuy room, and fits a 500 case perfectly :)

Ehm. 120+120+60+80+20 is 400 chips, not 500 ;)

@ OP: If you want 500 chips for a 1 table - 10 players tournament, you can go with starting stacks of:

T25 x 16
T100 x 16
T500 x 4
T1000 x 6
= T10 000.
That would utilize more of the 500 chip set.

160 X T25, 160 X T100, 60 X T500, 100 X T1000, 20 X T5000 = 500 chips.

Doh you are right! I have 2 X 200 racks.

That's a nice breakdown for 10k. The requirement, though, was for 10k or 20k starting stacks. I think you're going to want more T5000 chips for 20k stacks.

Also note that the OP already has some chips (eg 100 x T500). I guess some of them could be traded/sold, though...I didn't consider that.

Optimum breakdown of 500 tournament chips is as follows:

160 x T25
160 x T100
80 x T500
60 x T1000
40 x T5000
-------------
500 total chips -- which allows up to 20 x 10K stacks (8/8/4/2/1) with extras for color-ups and re-buys (or up to 10 x 20K stacks).

However, 500 chips is the NOT optimum number for a two-table tournament -- 600 chips works much better and more flexible:

160 x T25
160 x T100
80 x T500
160 x T1000
40 x T5000
-------------
600 total chips

For a single-table set, 400 chips is more than sufficient if in the right breakdown:

120 x T25
120 x T100
50 x T500
75 x T1000
35 x T5000
-------------
400 total chips -- which allows for up to 10 x 25K stacks including color-ups, or smaller 10K or 15K stacks with re-buys.

Those are the set targets I'd shoot for. Looking at your current numbers (100/100/100/45/12), I'd say you have extra T500s no matter which route you choose.

Generally speaking, you need equal numbers of T25 and T100 chips, 1/2 as many T500 chips, and at least 1/4 as many T5000 chips. T1000s are the workhorse chip after color-ups (and the best choice for creating larger stacks), so the more of them you have in the set, the more flexible it will be. I prefer to have at least an equal number of T1000s as the T25/T100 counts:

240 x T25
240 x T100
120 x T500
300 x T1000
100 x T5000

Amazing breakdown. I think Iam gonna aim for your 600 chip break down. I like the idea of flexibility.

And there you have it folks, that's how you convince someone who originally wanted to start with 500 chips to increase their set size to 600! Even considering the 1000 chip breakdown now
