It’s not entirely opponent-dependent, but the first and most important factor is whether the opponent is capable of folding. Many of them (perhaps the grumblers in this game) are not.Question for everyone: From Villian’s perspective, if you have missed flush draws, are you taking a stab at it here? I think there are situations where you do, but as played, I don’t think it works. I think villain checks back for value here cause you don’t want to risk getting shoved on. It would be ballsy, and gross if hero could find the balls c/r all in (assuming Villian doesn’t hold the Q)
That’s a fair point. It’s not entirely opponent-dependent, but the first and most important factor is whether the opponent is capable of folding. Many of them (perhaps the grumblers in this game) are not.
100%. I'm bluff jamming here to represent a queen or KQ.Only Q in his range is QT off at this point. So gross, so stupid.
I’m checking to try and get to showdown. IMO winning the pot is less valuable than actually seeing his hand here. The information will be telling.
Probably a split but such a shitty runout.

with flush draws and two pair I’d discount QT considerably except QThh that’s more protectedOnly Q in his range is QT off at this point. So gross, so stupid.

for the queen high straight. We need “Puke into a glass and drink it and then puke it back up again.
Arguably misplayed pre, bad call on flop, but we got the information we were looking for. Probably not considering this a solid player, and I’d look to take advantage of that in the future.Context:
Casual game, many irregular players - a lot of limping and calling with mediocre hands.
Cash game - .25/.50
SB: 50 BB
BB (Hero): 180 BB
UTG : irrelevant
UTG +1 : irrelevant
MP: 50 BB
HJ: 120 BB
CU: irrelevant
BTN: irrelevant
MP flat calls 1BB
HJ flat calls 1BB
SB completes to 1BB
BB (Hero) looks down at
Hero raises to 8BB
Multiple at the table groan. "$4? Pre flop? You haven't even seen the first few cards! I really wanted to play this hand. etc. etc."
MP folds
HJ calls 8 BB
SB folds
Pot is 18 BB
Flop comes and is...good, but dynamic?
Hero debates for a bit, thinking range should hit his opponent way better than hero's range, but given the limpiness still opts to bet. Bets 10BB
HJ thinks for a few seconds and then calls.
Pot is 38 BB
Turn is gross.
Hero thinks and ultimately CHECKS. Too many flop calls just got there and feels like the hand has turned into a bluff catcher.
HJ checks without much pause.
Pot is 38BB
River is super barfy.
Hero decides to try to blow HJ off a chop, but not go crazy in case he's raised. Hero bets 30BB.
HJ thinks for a slight bit and then calls.
Hero says he has the board.
HJ turns overfor the queen high straight.
Discuss.
I did mentally say "whatever" in my head.Arguably misplayed pre, bad call on flop, but we got the information we were looking for. Probably not considering this a solid player, and I’d look to take advantage of that in the future.
I get floating a card on the flop sometimes. I actually will do that from time to time. Just given that board texture, it’s very risky. Personally do not like the flat from HJ with AQ, but whatever.
