The one that everyone seems to like is "Pot Limit Omaha Poker" by Jeff Hwang.
I've read that the preflop strategy might be a little too tight, but I'm not an Omaha expert by any means
It is a bit tight preflop but honestly that's perfect for a beginner. You'll get to see a ton of hands without a ton of variance (well, relative to the amount of variance you'd see with a looser albeit more correct preflop strat).
Highly recommended for anyone new to the game.
In a casino 5/5 or lower PLO game, how much equity do you think the Hwang hand selection is really giving up?
Any number I might throw out would be a pretty loose guess, but it's not a ton in any case.
The bigger problem is that most people don't have the discipline to actually execute the tight Hwang strat long term without straying in -EV, gambly ways, so if they don't learn how to loosen up without donking it up, they will end up with substantial leaks.
It depends how many handed you are and how deep you are. 100bb deep Omaha 9 handed is similar to Holdem in that you have to play really tight. The deeper you are and the less players at the table the more you can open up.I'm naturally tight and disciplined. It comes from years of full ring mid-stakes limit Holdem. If I were to take up PLO as a money making venture, I could easily adopt the Hwang standard. As it is now, I'm slowly becoming a whale. I can't seem to book a winning session with decent competition.
Has anyone read Hwang's "Advanced" book? Opinions?
http://www.ploquickpro.com/Anybody have any real favourites for PLO or PLO8 strategy books?
The advanced book offers in-hand tactical suggestions for various scenarios but is not a significant strategic change from his original book.Has anyone read Hwang's "Advanced" book? Opinions?
Butler, when are you going to publish your PLO8 manifesto as an ebook? At least then I would get to see it.
I know it is old, but the PLO8 section in Super Systems 2 helped me get the basics of the game down.
Hwang books. All you need.
My recollection is that SS2 definitely has PLO + O8 sections (along with tons of other games).
Yeah PLO and O8, but not PLO8, right?
