What am I missing? J8 wins with a flush?

Yeah piles went in on the flop, player with j8 thought he had a flush then, then spikes the heart for an actual flush. It led to a lot of laughter and shaming the player with aces.
We played $1/$2 last night from 6pm to 3am. We play max $200 buy in, but match the stacks on reloads and rebuys. Straddles are pretty well every single hand and double straddles aren’t uncommon. We play a bomb pot the next hand after any flop this is all one suit. Dealer gets to call the game, although double board PLO is probably the most common game called. Took about 90 mins to get our first bomb pot last night, but we probably had 12-15 in all. Anyway, even though it’s $1/$2, it can (and usually does) get pretty crazy pretty quickly. I have 5 racks of $5s and 2 racks of $1s and they were all in play within an hour. Nearly every chip from 2 racks of $25s managed to get in play.
Anyway, that’s the game. Anyone who’s seen me post knows poker for me these days is all about playing with my son, who turns 15 next month. He’s been playing since he was 7 and trust me, anyone who’s seen thinks he’s just some kid and tries to bully him around gets stacked pretty damn quickly. On the year, he has the highest win rate of any of my regs, including me. lol
Well, last night was his first real gut check. He got a pretty bad beat on an all-in hand. He called the other persons shove post flop, who he had covered and was way ahead. Kaleb had flopped a set and the villain tried a bluff with 3 to a straight. No pair. Notta. Villain caught runner, runner to suck out a straight over his set. No biggie. Similar hand happened again an hour or so later. And again. Now he’s tilted a bit and tries to bluff shove on a guy who had the nut flush. Oops. So, now he’s officially busted and down his biggest deficit of his young life. Stuck for $1,000.
I ask what he wants to do and he’s so pissed he just calmly says, I’m thinking. I tell the dealer to just deal him out for now. 20 mins goes by and he says, dad, I’d like to play some more. It’s 1am now, btw. Ok, cool. How much do you want to buy in for? $500. Ok. He will be shorter than some, but not so short that he will get pushed around. I like it. Done. I give him his chips and pat him on the shoulder. Didn’t say a word. He’s sitting in the 1 position and I’m in 10, fwiw. I’m thinking this could go really badly, tbh. But, everyone has to go through it and lessons will be learned. Let’s see if he was able to clear his mind and play smart or if he’s still tilted. I’m feeling slightly sick for him, tbh.
Wish I could tell you he crawled completely out of the hole. He didn’t. But, he made a hell of a run at it. Played great and ended up only down $240 when we cashed out. This was his first losing session all year. And I think I was prouder of the way he handled himself then if he’d cashed out up a grand. Was very cool under immense stress (especially dealing with 14 year old hormones!). That’s a shit ton of money for him to be stuck. Nearly 10% of his bankroll.
At no point did he lose his composure. He never gave a rant on how stupid someone was. Merely said, nice hand and moved on to the next one. I’ve had plenty of people storm out slamming shit and muttering over far less. Super proud.
Anyway, sorry for the long post, but I’m a very proud dad today and just wanted to share the story for anyone who wanted to read a poker novel. lol

FWIW, I bought in for $200 and never added on or needed a rebuy.
Second game with the mixed house molds and some home made focaccia by our host!
New venue on Friday will see how it plays out.
The tables are in pairs of two because a single table is probably too small for 6 max (unless we seat ppl at the ends) but two tables is too large for a 6 max (there's extra seats). I only have one of the large toppers for final table.
Those divider things better be removeable if they're not I will cancel the event lol.
I'll have to see how large the desks are. If anyone sees any issues with this layout please lmk.

Nice tournament setup!
Had to rebuy early. Didn’t hit anything but bluffs for about 3 hours. Then a couple of bluffs worked and I started getting cards. Ended up finishing second plus I took down two bounties. Really fun night.
