Welcome! I was just today trying to convince my wife to move to N. Cali

Well, stay far away from Humboldt. It's quickly become a sh*thole. But I guess the same could be said anywhere these days.

My dad has a binder that looks like it was his personal collection. He stopped putting anything in it about 20 years ago. I know because it's been in my possession since the late 90's. He used to own and operate a small cardroom so naturally some remnants of his life remain... I make it sound like he's passed; he hasn't. lol Anyway, he had some casino and card room chips. Sorry for the poopy image. I'll get better pics at some point if anyone is curious about them. That's just one page. There are quite a few more pages in the binder.

Ask your dad for some stories about running the cardroom. I’m sure we’d love to hear them

He has some sets that aren't marked with his card room, but a generic chip, I think. I'll dig 'em out and let you all know. I have some vintage chips with the name of his card room, but only a few that I've found.

Hello from SoCal! It looks like there are a lot of people in this forum from California.

I also have a lot to learn. Plenty to read and see throughout these forums. People have been super helpful with recommendations as well!

So I went out to the garage and found the box of chips. I don't understand why my father has these chips but there they were. Scandia Casino Norway??? There's about 25 boxes of chips.

Did a little digging and it looks like the Scandia chips are a fantasy chip. I'm sure everyone here already knew that. :D Unfortunately it's not a full set, just like 11 or 12 boxes of $1 chips and 1 box of $100 chips, and 14 boxes of S&K $5 chips. I assume my dad wanted to use the Scandia chips in his tournaments. They all look mint.

Wish my dad had stuff like this in his garage. Sadly his garage is just full of cleaning supplies and my sister’s leftover furniture from moving. Nary a poker chip to be found. Much less thousands of mint chips.

Congrats on your find!!

He told a few things years ago that I can't really remember now. We never spent a lot of time around each other. He was always working in that card room. Now he is suffering from dementia so there's not a lot to our conversations.

Awww, sorry to hear that. My grandfather suffered from dementia as well before he passed, it was tough.

Yeah, you never quite get over it. For me it's been strange seeing his decline because he was always so independent. Now he can't do anything by himself.

I guess my ten post requirement has been fulfilled with this post so look for some of those chips in the classified section. :) Still not quite sure what to ask. $2 per chips just seems outrageous to me. Yes, I'm a newbie for a reason. lol But then I see others asking more than that so... Don't want to appear greedy but I DO have some need for the cash at the moment. Who doesn't, though, right? ;)

Welcome! Looking forward to seeing all your father has.
Unfortunately, all I have are the S&K $5's and Scandia $1's. But I'm willing to part with them, may want to keep one stack of the S&K's for old time's sake, though.
