There might be a size limit. You should be able to either upload them with the "Attach files" button or simply "copy image" and then paste it in the text box.

I'll tag @Tommy in case he knows of more specific problems or restrictions with uploading photos.

If you are trying to upload, then use "Gallery embed" that's what I did when I was new, and it's a PITA. Just use the "Insert Image" button and browse to the file on your computer. Much easier. I've not encountered a file size limitation yet with some pretty big photos. But there might be one.
