I have sent my chips to him 8 months ago and was given a 2-4 month ETA.
It's been 8 months and the responses are at best, minimal. I've asked for my chips back but he hasn't logged in since.
I am curious if anyone else has experienced something similar.
I've heard he was very responsive and respectful in the past but things may have changed.
I'm making this thread to warn others if they choose to deal with him.
I hope @Nanook decides to respond and start being accountable.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Yeah, unfortunately it has come to this. I sent my chips to Alan about 20 months ago and it was supposed to be 2 or 3-month project. There was understandable delay for a while, no issues there, but eventually it was time to finish the project. I asked for a timeline on a bunch of occasions, at least 7 or 8 times, and each time I was told the project would be done in a week or two. I'd follow up a month later and each time the response was it would be done in a week or two. This went on for quite some time (about a year). Communication became less and less frequent and now there hasn't been any communication for about 2 months. I've been checking his last time online status and although he is not on frequently it appears he has been online fairly consistently (about once a week) until recently (hasn't been on since 9/25/24).

I had very similar experience. Project started in 2023, the first few months went well, but then deadlines started to fall as he had some personal/family issues. I finally asked him to return my chips back in May ('24), and a few weeks later he did. I had already paid for one box (I believe 8 racks) of chips to be murdered and he finished that one in July and sent it. Hope all is ok with him, but the least anyone can do in this situation is box everyone's chips up and send them back ASAP. We all understand. Life happens. We all get overwhelmed at times. And family/life/work is a lot more important than these little clay discs. Just a quick note and return the chips.

I hope everything is okay. I remember Nanook from as far back as the twoplustwo home poker forum days, so my gut instinct is that it would be unlikely for him to suddenly burn his reputation without any explanation for a few racks.

Does anyone know him in real life/have his phone number?

I used his services back in May 2022 and was very pleased. Quick turnaround and did a nice job. Obviously this was two years ago at this point but FWIW.

His murder work is excellent, but I did run into a few delays and frustrating communication.

IIRC he delivered an initial batch pretty quickly but then there was a long hiatus.

At some point I asked for the remaining chips back and got answers like "they're at my office, so I can't get them for a few days" etc.

In the end things worked out, and the total time was nothing like 8 months. (I did wind up doing some of the chips myself.) That long of a delay and silence seems like an outlier to me so I wonder if something happened, hopefully not.

It’s pretty easy to get burnt out in doing these things. Then the expectations and disappointments start building up, and it just gets depressing to do all that when you got all your stuff to do. Procrastination sets in and once the backlog is a certain size it just becomes impossible to catch it back up.

Same as one eyed dollar and others that have offered services.

Kifer is just mental is why he sticks with it.

Actually I go thru it also. There is sometimes I'm just not in the mindset and not feeling it. Goes on work runs. I'll run hard for 2 weeks, light for a week, then 2 weeks of resenting life... Then repeat.

It's fun, but it's taken a lot out of you. Even to just manage the amount of PMs I get some days with random questions. Add real life to it and I don't know how some of our killer vendors do it.

Very likely could be the case. Combined with some extra life stress it can add up. Hopefully he'll be back sooner rather than later and just send back whatever projects he can't manage at the time.

I likely would have closed up shop years ago, if not for Andrea's amazing support (both emotional and technical.)

And FYI @Nanook (Alan) is trustworthy. I would be certain the chips are safe. Hope his health is good and his absence is only explained (to me) by his embarrassment he is this far behind.

You do know I can figure out child proof locks..... Its like making a diamond. It just takes time and pressure.....
I used a lock called so simple even a child can figure it out so that you'd feel so good about yourself that you'd get back in the lab and finish my damn hot stamps, Josh.

Are you gacked out right now? You are just blathering gibberish ....

Hi there -- Glad to find this thread and know I'm not the only one. In Dec 2022 he did a fantastic job gutting 3 racks of Sycuan $1s for me which became great $10 HSIs. In July 2023 I sent him a more substantial batch of ~1200 THC soilds that he agreed he could do, but then unfortunately it sounded like life/family hit him pretty hard :(

Gave him some space, followed up after a few months, and after quite a bit of back-and-forth he was able to gut and ship half of them in August to me (more than a year later). Said he could finish the rest of them soon.

But since then he hasn't responded to my messages. Multiple times I've offered to have him just send the chips back to me if he's too slammed, but he kept insisting he just needed another week or two, so I relented.

His knowledge and enthusiasm in our earlier conversations were fantastic, obviously super-passionate about all things chip-related! Sure hope he's ok and that we hear from him soon, clearly not a whole lot anyone can do at this point.

I agree with the previous posts. I really hope everything is alright on his end. While I don’t want to make any assumptions, situations like this often point to something personal going on. Health and family should always come first. I understand it’s worrying when someone goes quiet, but I believe he’ll resurface when he’s ready.
