I thought maybe it would be fun for some people to come in here and make some detailed posts about some chips, and why they think they are some of the most underrated chips available. These could be Dice chips, because you honestly believe that the value, for what you get out of them is an absolute steal, that there isn't a better entry level chip out there, the Outlaws, or it could be some chip that is $1.50/chip (let's be real though), if you think that it is the best value for the money, and maybe a great bang for the buck. These will probably tend to be more beginner sets understandably.

Rules:
1. Must post pictures
2. Must give prices
3. Must state why you think it's such a value

Obvi...I'll go first.

The Jackpot Casino Coin Inlay
Yes...I said coin inlay, and poker in the same thread... Hear me out.

This is definitely a beginner set, or somebody that isn't into chips...
You have all of those plastic imitation chips with slugs in them...that call themselves poker chips. Here, instead of covering it with a sticker, they have stamped the metal coin, so that it looks like it's supposed to be there. I know it's no the MOST glamorous..But to me there is a big difference in weighing down your chip with a slug, vs making the most of it and using it to your advantage. So, working it into the chip helps these chips win over the rest of the slugged chips IMO.

This set is a circa 2005 or so set I think. Originally it was on 5stardeal.com I think. I think it was made in the early days of Trademark Poker. However, you can still find them pretty readily available if you do some searching. I've seen barrels of 25chips on Amazon for 1.99 as an add-on product. I've seen them on eBay for 30 cents per chip, and that's about the most expensive I've seen them. Most often it's been right around that 13-15 cent/chip mark.

The colors are simple, distinguished, and the edge spot design is fair, poker themed.

These chips are a plastic mold, obvi, but, they have aligned edge spots, and, the plastic is a bit 'softer' feeling than some of the other plastic chips. More like a bud jones mold that you could almost peel your finger into. It's hard to explain, but it also gives them a better sound, and feel than a standard plastic chip.

Knowing that A LOT of newer players like the feel and sound of HEAVY chips...these definitely fit that bill, at 12.2 grams. I don't love the weight, but again it works in with these chips in particular because it seems like they are meant to look, and feel heavy. It matches the stigma of the chip itself. Now, when you really get into casino chips, and see the standard, then of course the weight of these chips is a huge turnoff. But show these to people who've had the typical dice chip experience, and they'll think these are real casino chips. I've actually seen several casinos that use coin inlay chips on their blackjack tables, and these feel like a higher quality, no joke. They are sturdy, stack well, shuffle well, one of the best beginner sets

easy answer for me ....Unicorn chips from GOCC. I ordered mine at a whopping 30c/chip brand new from them, added some Gear labels, and got myself a nice small set of tourney chips. Yes they are plastic, but they actually feel pretty good and have enough room for a thin label without causing spinners. Come in a ton of colors, and can even be hotstamped.

I do not have pics of my set, but the above Treasure Bay was my favorite color

I've got I think 600 of these 6 racks of different colors brand new. No idea if I'll ever use them with them quantities. I do agree the feel is decent for plastic.

Unicorns, very underrated. Calling them plastic does them a disservice, though it is true. They are closer to ceramic feel than they are to softer plastic like dice chips.

Unicorns could be clay too! But you’re right. These are a one and done set made years ago and the new GOCC unicorns are a different material altogether. I just wanted to post new pr0n of these though. :D

I think all custom ceramic chips are under-rated.

At prices starting around $0.75 per chip, you can get a full-face customizable chip that has unparalleled colour choices, rolling edge printing, something that is durable, and can get them in all sorts of shapes. Regular round chips, octagons, buttons, plaques, all are possible. Best bang for your custom buck, bar none.

Absolutely agree on ceramics. Specifically the durability part.

Easy answer...BCC SAMURAI PALACE!!

Hard for me to say what the current price is because complete sets infrequently sell. But I would guess $1.50 per chip or less is what a complete set would go for. This is barely above the $1.35 price they originally sold for.

Why do I think they are worth more?

1. The art work is BEAUTIFUL!!

2. I love the dark label on one side and white label on the other.

3. Edge spot progression is fantastic!!

4. They stack like bricks. MUCH better than any Paulson or TRK. Don't believe me? I challenge anybody to stack Paulsons or TRKs more than 400 chips high (see pic below).

I think BCC quality control was highly suspect during the time these came out, that chippers were nervous. So these never really got the love they deserve. But they are DEFINITELY one of my favorites!!

I would still have mine if my blue one dollar chips didn't have three different colors of blue for the base color and three different colors of white/gray for the edge spots. It absolutely drove me crazy.

Your right about the artwork. Holy shit. Probably one of my favorites! The edge spot progression is fantastic!

Yeah...that damn shade difference is a pain. Not that much 9f a biggie for me, but it is the one drawback.

This is one of the sets that we play with. They are very nice chips.

Love the Samurai artwork, but never cared for the upper denomination chips. Both the colors and spots (and lack of progression there) are pretty lackluster -- for being such a great job on the 25c through $100 denominations, it went to shit for the last three chips on the lineup. As a tourney set aficionado, they're pretty disappointing.

The T-mold is awesome, however -- one of the best molds ever produced imo.

Freaking love the T-mold.

X2 on this, especially the issue of the higher denoms. I have the same issue with the Protege $5k, for as beautiful as the rest of the lineup is, the monochrome brown turd that is the $5k is an utter head scratcher.

I completely agree. I use the cash set way more than tourney. The edge spot on the frac is one of my favorites.

I wasn't around on CT when this set was being pondered, but it definitely seems like the edge spot progressions were an after thought on the higher denominations. Weird thing is, the ugly ass $1000s seem to be the most sought after chips in the set (which I suspect is driven by low availability).

Although, I sold off the tourney set thinking I wouldn't miss it. INSTANT regret. Bought them back fist chance I got. (:

Respectfully disagree, although I can understand where you’re coming from.

The $500 are gorgeous to me, realy fantastic. The $1K are meh, not bad, just meh. In the grand scheme of things, that chip works great for playability. The $5Ks though, are among my favorite chips of all time. Absolutely gorgeous imo.

Interesting !
Are these available for the home market ?
If so, do they provide the hotstamping service ?

When GOCC was around, they were sold to the home market (I ordered directly from them). They also had the ability to hotstamp on them. I use mine as a travel set and for keeping score with board and card games

Do you mean that they don't provide these chips nor the hotstamping service anymore ?
I was willing to get a cheap customized cash set...

I just called minuteman and they do hot foil stamping. Anyone have any experience with them? They said get a email and art file and they can give me a quote.

I didn't have input into the colors, but at least I helped get the text moved to follow the edge of the chip and font changed.. still wasn't happy about the text over the hair, but wasn't my project... ah the days when there was no debate about what a Group Buy actually was... ;)

Very cool!! I tried to track down the designer, Elijah Muse, to see if he was interested in designing me a set. But apparently he moved overseas.
