Morals, ethics, legalities or hardcore chip harvesting. (1 Viewer)

It is the hi-jacking of the word "harvesting" that I am poking fun at. To see the word co-opted in this manner after growing up in a farming community where kids, including myself, worked on farms bringing in the harvest is the epitome of white privilege.

I've seen them, Neo.

Give me a break with bringing in white privilege. I would 1000% make my kids work for me, it’s called cheap labor and family business. I was also born in a farm in Maine yet somehow I survived. Maybe because white privilege.

Identical argument could be made about swiping a 375 ml bottle of Jack from one of their bars. But, that would be morally and ethically and legally dubious.

Maybe “will it bankrupt the multinational casino” isn’t a great standard

Except that even a mini bottle, let alone a fifth, is worth more than the 25-50 cent differential between the cost of replacement and the $1 you plunked down for the chip.

Assuming you only harvest $1s. If you take snappers or $5s, let alone higher denoms, they come out ahead.

Meanwhile, casinos comp drinks all day long to many customers. Because having you there and keeping you happy makes them money.

Advanced receipts =/= goods or services. Equating one to the other is just plain poppycock !

P.S. If casinos said, “To harvest a rack of $1s you also have to harvest and murder a $25 chip to cover the difference,” I doubt any harvester would complain. Might even do it for $100.

And I object to naming a silly bean bag game “Cornhole.” As someone who grew up cornholing anything that moved on the family farm, oh wait

Calm down farmer, some words have multiple definitions

“collect or obtain (a resource) for future use”

I'm quite surprised that this thread has gained so much traction for discussion, since there have been morally/ethically and possibly legally much worse activities than casino harvesting that are embraced (or at least accepted) by lots of people.
Like [shudder] ... MURDER !!

I'm late to the party on this topic but wanted to share some photos of my harvest from the MGM Detroit on opening day when they rebranded back in 2007. I got stopped by a security guard on my way out. He asked me what I was doing. I said, "I collect chips." He radioed someone. Then 60 seconds later he said, "Okay. You can go."

The quarters in the photo are from the old casino. I didn't harvest them. Bought them on eBay back in the day. Man, I'm a terrible photographer.

It’s the most fascinating on the forum. We’ve all gotten to know how people really think and feel about things. We now have all sorts of notions about other members now. Same reason why people watch reality TV shows.

Depending on what I'm looking for, the Fractionals pictured, I just went to the cage, explained I was a collector and could I buy a rack.
Wound up with 4 racks that trip.

If they are racks of 1s, I'll usually go to the poker room, as for $300 in chips (200 $1's and a barrel of 5's)
Sit at an empty table for a few minutes and... done.

Thinking about making a trip to Vegas to harvest some chips. Anyone with recent experiences?

That is the best way, in my opinion, to do it. Just ask. Lots of people on here have said that casinos were agreeable when they asked. If they say no, then don’t. If it is done that way, no issue.
I really like that approach! I'd imagine that in most cases casinos will be totally apathetic (do you think the average casino manager even knows that chip collectors exist?), but you don't have to worry about the ambiguity of whether or not a casino cares.

I would rather ask then get tackled to the ground by Paul Blart

Mofos at the cage have me a stern warning not to bring these home. Oh well, chippers gotta chip.
Lol. Here's hoping the casinos don't enter your face into facial recognition systems and track you in other casinos as a known 'chip harvester'.

I know a guy who counts cards in blackjack, and he's tagged in the system for Caesar's properties. He said if he even stands near a blackjack table for a few minutes they'll approach him and ask him to leave. He was once playing blackjack in some other non-Harrah's casino, and said the security staff approached him and asked him to (made him) leave the blackjack table. Although he's free to play poker or baccarat or any other table game.

Which annoys the hell out of me. Without debating the moralities of card counters, the casino considers them to be cheating. But they don’t mind putting these people who they consider to be cheaters on our poker tables.

The notion that card counters are cheaters is the biggest joke. It’s called doing your homework and “studying” the game.

When we play poker don’t we make a note of what cards have been folded and the probability of what cards are left in the deck? PLEASE….

Casinos don’t like when they see big variances in blackjack players bets. Small bets when the counts low and huge bets when the counts in the players favor. It’s all good to them too if you’re losing but not if you’re winning.

A buddy of mine and me got kicked out of the Barbary Coast years ago playing double deck blackjack for this very reason. We were small fish. Casinos flat out don’t want you to beat them.

Card counting is using your intellect and learned skills to beat the house and they don’t like that. But I don’t think it’s cheating.
