I was lucky to find a small set of cool chips off-forum at a great price, and would like to build it into a playable set for 5 players without having to put much more cash into it.

This will be a travel/backup 5 max set for $1/$2 cash games. Buyins from 200-400.

Wondering what will be the minimum number of chips needed for each denom and still have the set playable. No need for full barrels, racks, or other OCD requirements. Just looking for cheap and efficient.

This is what it's looking like so far:

50x $1
100x $5
90x $25
30x $100
2x $500

breakdown based on 5x startstacks of 10/18/12 ($400 total)

Remaining chips after the 5 initial buyins. These will be used for rebuys. (in case the initials buyins are 200 or 300 there will be more chips for rebuys obv).

10x $5
30x $25
30x $100
2x $500
Total remaining bank: $4800 (=12x $400 rebuys)

Rebuys will be:
first rebuy.) 10x $5s and 14x $25
second rebuy.) 16x $25
last 10 rebuys.) $100s and $500s

Do you think this would work, and if not what do you suggest I add/change to the breakdown?

In general, I follow these guidelines for the number of chips per player:

Fracs-10
$1s-20
$5-20 minimum, 40 works great
$20/$25-20
$100-debatable if you need them but I like to have 10 per

So considering my set is for $1/$2 and we dont have fracs, then 10 $1s each person should likely be enough?

I'd say :

NL200 (1-2)

50 x 1
100 x 5
100 x 20(or 25)
50 x 100

--> 300 chips

It can also cover 200BB NL400 (1-2).

Plenty, however I’d personally add 10 more and aim to make this set playable for 6 max. As it stands, I think it’s a touch short on chips per player. Should be fine as far as total bank. Still, I think more $5s are where your main focus should be

I’d want 15 $1’s per player and 40 $5’s per player. The upper denominations you have are plenty.

I would look for 20-25 more $1’s
and a rack of $5’s.

This sounds more reasonable to me.

I think you could get by lots of times with a few less, but do you really want to be put in that situation?

Pny are always impressive.

50/150/80/20 of 1/5/25/100 for a 300 chip set.

15 singles per player is better, but I think 10 works in a pinch if space is at a premium
$4800 bank, enough for more than a barrel per player of fives, which is the most important chip determining playability.

Thanks for the feedback. I realize it would be better with as few more chips, but seems 10x $1, 20x $5 and 20x $25 pr player should be playable at least. (plus some hundos and a couple of five hundos)

Just FYI I have another set for a full table, with more chips. Also I might look at adding some more chips to this down the line. Would honestly love to have a few more chips, just keeping it budget friendly at the moment while still usable

Got these in hand today, and I gotta say I do like those oversized inlays.
50x$1
100x $5
90x $25
(240 total chips)

Guess I'm going to aim for 10x more $1s, 10x more $25s, and 40x hundreds. For a full case and a 300 chip set. Should work for up to 6 players just fine. A tad short on the fives, but over here in Europe we are used to making bets with the higher denoms if needed so it's not a problem.

Honestly more often than not my poker friends will be annoyed if I give them 20x $5 in a start stack, as they feel 10 is more than adequate (fishes, I know....)
