Mgm Springfield chips (1 Viewer)

I have no idea

I find that site unusable and never go there

I just looked and there chips show out of date information for the room. Only a few denoms, and only from older sets. The paulsons are new to the room and not even in play yet.

Use your mouse. "Click" on the state where your friends casino is located. If outside the US click on the globe, or in the case of a cruise ship, click on the boat.

Next, find the name of the casino/card room in the alphabetical list. In the case of really long lists (like one would get in Nevada) you can filter the list (open/closed, by city, etc.) You can also click on a letter under the flag/map to jump directly to casinos starting with that letter.

Boom! Pics of chips through the ages.

Problem is, not all chips are in listed. Hence BG's wondering if they were in the guide.

I did this, see the post directly above yours.

It took a while to build the post. Using MS Paint is slow work.

I simply did not edit it out because it took a little work, and newbies may not be familiar with ChipGuide. Anyone experiencing it's closely related forum thechipboard.com may be scared off (which I thought might have been your case), but going directly to ChipGuide is user friendly.

Nothing shows up when you click the link..I'm guessing it's about Wynn selling to mgm.if this happens mhm has to sell their Springfield property due to mass gaming regulations.which means all those chips might possibly become available....
Updated and YEP! Hysterical kick in the pants to Springfield

FWIW, I was at the Rivers Schenectady room recently in upstate New York, and a bunch of dealers from there are decamping to Wynn/Encore.

Also, the chips at Springfield are getting pretty filthy. If they become available, they are going to need a cleaning.

If the Wynn/Encore changes hands, might'nt all their brand new chips become available as well? Because they'd have to make new ones branded MGM?

I'd imagine so.if the chips have been produced already.and I don't know what the gaming g commission will do.maybe they have to destroy them

The COVID fatality numbers of 609,797 should also include the death of many poker rooms.
True and sad in the short run, but I also expect a boom in the next year as the online game has assploded and many of those folks are going to want to play live. In short, I think demand for live poker will be greater in 2022 than it was pre-Covid.

MGM’s website now says:

“We currently do not offer poker at MGM Springfield. We will make a decision about the return of poker by December 31, 2021.”
Realistically they should not offer that casino. Been hemorrhaging money since day 1 and a lot of it

I hope you are right, but I see it more like this...

  1. Pre-COVID Poker rooms were basically flat (neither generating losses nor marking significant profits). They were merely an attraction to bring customers that may also spend money elsewhere
  2. COVID hits
  3. Everything closes
  4. Online poker sees a resurgence as poker players have no place else to go, and there is very little overhead for the operator
  5. Things begin to reopen
  6. Home games see an uptick (as noticed by home game items - such as tables - increases)
  7. Upon reopening, businesses/casinos are desperate for cash
  8. Buffets (a loss leader) and poker rooms are left closed as they provide little incentive to the casino.
  9. Reopening a closed poker room means finding/training new poker dealers that have had more than a year (or two) to move on to a new field. That creates a new barrier to entry. Barriers = cost to a slim-to-no profit sector of the business.
Where I base this information (as itemized by the number-points above):
  1. Nevada Gaming Commission figures
  2. COVID - it was a reality
  3. International "lock-downs"
  4. PCFers poured into online gaming, as identified by a number very active of threads that later went dormant when home options reappeared
  5. Things did reopen
  6. CPC and T_Chan both discussed rather sizable back-logs
  7. Duh.
  8. Most Vegas buffets remained closed, with many repurposing the buffet space. Many poker rooms also closed and saw their spaces repurposed. Caesars Entertainment has dropped all entertainment shows as the "draw" simply does not matter to them anymore. People will either come to gamble or not - the shows are not a significant income provider.
  9. I don't know how difficult it is for a casino to open what was already closed, but some casinos (Ojibwa for one) found it better to just sell off their cardroom chips, rather than try to open post-COVID. Good for some particular chippers, bad for the poker world.
I have seen opened rooms doing quite well though. The Venetian has started using floor space in the Palazzo to up their table counts. A room in Dayton Ohio has expanded post-COVID. It is hard to tell if this effect will spill over into other rooms, or if just the really good rooms will survive, much like any other post-boom survivors (like the dot-com boom).

Look at the boom in Texas with packed card houses. Also in Florida seems to be booming. I don’t play in the them but MD poker rooms are thriving.

It might be more of a Caesars and MGM business issue than a poker issue. Those companies have not thrived in a long time.

Has anyone ever played in this room? How is it? May be headed up this way in June.

Yes, but only pre-COVID. The room is fairly large and relatively new.

Couple of things of note, though things may have changed since they reopened:

* On the plus side, they would let you buy in deep at 1/2 for up to $500 (whereas it is more usually a $300 cap in other casinos). This suits my game, but others might dislike it I suppose.

* Rooms were very expensive. (I either drove home or stayed at a cheaper motel nearby.)

* On the downside, they sit up to 10 at a table. This makes for some very slow play, and allows nits to fold for hours.

One time I was there, crammed in 10 to a table, and literally 4 of the 10 were not playing any hands except once in a long while their big blinds plus ultra premiums. So it was a very odd game—sort of like playing 6-handed but much slower, with these random four extra players who almost never participated. If they came in pretty much everyone folded so they would only win tiny pots.

I appreciate the insight, thank you!

I can't find any information on their site about what games are offered even. I like playing deeper especially in a raked game to beat the edge. The casino looks new and the room looks nice.

I just figured it'd be worth an inquiry for a couple of hours of entertainment after the kiddos and wife go to bed. As I would be with my family (there is a surprising amount to do in the area for my son that will be 4), we'll be staying somewhere else cheaper, but would be within a 10 minute drive of the casino.

You’d think I’d know, being a local (never been there because I’m actually closer to Foxwoods, Mohegan sun, and at least four NH poker rooms.). But from what I’ve heard, the MGM Springfield isn’t exactly in the prettiest part of town.

I'll shoot you a PM later, but on the surface, the science museum, Dr. Seuss museum, and zoo all look great for my son, but if the area is a little rough especially for a young family, we can still reconsider our plans.

I wish I could help you, but I'm the wrong guy. I haven't been to springfield in over 30 years - I know nothing. But I bet somebody here can help.

When I was there a few years ago, right after the casino opened, I would concur that it was not in the nicest part of town (no offence to any PCF'ers that live in Springfield). I was glad I had my dog in the RV when I went into the casino and the wife stayed behind.

It’s not. But once there, it’s not like you’re likely to wander around Springfield. The casino is very self-contained, and there is plenty to do inside.
