Anyone have experience with hong kong style mahjong as well? I’m trying to set up a Mahjong game using a cash-game structure and need some help with the logistics. Since Mahjong involves four players constantly paying each other out after every hand, I figured poker chips are the only way to go.
For those of you used to running home games:
What’s a good chip breakdown so we aren't constantly hunting for change?

This is a late reply but hopefully it will help. We play Filipino style, which is based of Chinese, Mahjong. I attached a picture of our old sign. We have since adjusted it for $1/2 up to $5/10 games. The $1/2 game is a $25-50 buy in and the larger game is $250-300+ buy in. It depends on what group is playing and on what night. You can change up the buy in depending on how long you want to play. You also have to factor in re buys. Depending on your chip set up, we don’t make a lot of change between rounds. The stacks are fairly dialed in with amounts. The smaller games use a lot of francs. I have updated my signs now to only have francs used in the low end game. Everything else now uses whole number chips. My chips are as follows: $.25, $.50, $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100. These were all made for the different Mahjong payouts and for multiple tables playing at a time. I had BR make up some semi-custom chips for me.

show us the chips!

I've only played Riichi mahjong, but most mahjong sets should come with the sticks that represent points

Post the chips…what a great idea on a chip forum! While this may not be everyone’s cup of tea with color choices, it works for us. I already had tradition color just done with Kristil. We wanted something that was fun and fit ‘us’. Our basement is set up as more of a lounge and not some much man cave. No, the room isn’t all purple either! It’s dark gray and purple. The chip values work for the various mahjong games and horse racing. I have enough chips to have four tables of mahjong going at one time.
