My non-poker gaming friends have started playing Magic the Gathering again (ugh).

I was very much into the game from 1995 until the early 2000’s but got burned out and sold everything off long ago (I know).

What I am looking for are good playable Commander decks.

I am not looking to amass a bunch of cards again. I don’t want bulk boxes of cards.

Also not looking for the ultra rare/ super expensive stuff. Too much of that is faked now to risk it. I’ll probably order some proxies for them anyways (the Tina’s of M:tG  )

So if you have some decent Magic decks collecting dust and are looking for a set of Paulson chips let me know.

I’m not selling any sets, just looking to trade for playable Magic the Gathering decks.

I used to play around the same era as you. I just played against my brothers though so it wasn't serious and the decks we used probably weren't tournament legal  . I have quite a few cards but I don't know if it will be anything you're looking for. What size decks are you looking to build? Any specific series? If I think I have what you're looking for I'll pull my cards out of storage and send you some pics.

Just proxy them, save your chips. Takes some effort but is practically free. I built 34 commander decks over a year and a half and proxied them all for a slick 17¢/card.

If you can answer @mipevi’s question above about your groups meta I might have a couple spares (read: “only okay”) decks I could ship ya cause they’re getting replaced in my next proxy run

Asking a chipper to proxy magic card almost equal to proxy Paulson Chip with Tina Chip plus a fake inlay on it.
I get the idea, but agree with @FestiveKnight that it is a big difference. If only playing with friends proxies are fine.

Even before I stopped playing it wasn’t unusual for people to have basic land cards that they took a marker to turn into whatever card they wanted to use in a deck. For only wanting to play the game, proxies are great. For the collectible side of the hobby, they are its bane.

It would be the same if using Paulsons allowed you to score a full house, but chipcos only counted that as a pair and a set.

Chips and their rarity/cost/etc. don’t impact any outcome of the game or competitive balance. Availability of specific cards in CCGs does.

Also that Paulson doesn’t make new chips anymore which is very different from MTG which is a company entirely built around creating artificially expensive cards

You can be a MTG collector (ew lol) and thus hate on proxies

Or you can be into “MTG finance” (lmao) and thus hate on proxies

And if you’re literally anyone else you should be pro proxy. There is some inflection point where enough proxying could kill WOTC and we’d lose because no new cards. That would indeed suck. That point is very very very far away. The Miku whales are doing their part and we have them to thank for keeping WOTC happily profitable.

If you’re literally anyone but a collector, mtg finance gambler, or a WOTC exec, you should be pro proxy.

Not just for casual play. It’s most important in tournament play (where ofc it’s entirely banned) because proxying is the key to leveling the playing field.

Let’s take @BarrieJ3’s analogy further. When players sit at your table, they have to pay a premium to get nicer chips in their starting stack. When you deal, you deal from different decks. The players with TRK get from a pinochle deck, the players with Tina’s get a mathematically minimally optimal set of cards. Something like 10-7, and 5-2 only. (You get the point).

I have a metric F-ton of cards and decks.
From basic lands to Mishra’s Workshops and Gaea’s Cradle playset.

Send me a PM and we can chat!

I have a lot of MTG, ranging from sealed product to Singles. I used to stream a lot on Whatnot. I still hop on every now and again lol my account is : Magicbro. I’m down to discuss any possible trades!
