Sincerely trying to understand the argument above, but leery of stepping into the middle of it... But here are my honest questions:
1) What specific data would be necessary to definitively answer the question of how the change in blind structure impacts gameplay? (I assume anecdotal observation isn’t what is meant above by “data.”)
2) Unless one is running some kind of RFID setup on multiple tables in a game which goes off 6-10 times a month, how would meaningful data be collected on the effect on action in early blinds?
Some thoughts, pending responses:
* The total length of time of the tourney would be easy enough to track without any special tech. Just jot down the finish time at the end.
* However, without logs for 100+ games using each structure, I’m not sure it would tell me much. It would have to be sifted and adjusted pretty thoroughly. (Was there a chop in any of the games? How to best account for the number of players? Was the length of a given game extended/shortened more because of other factors—say, all your LAGgiest regs showed up one night, and all the nits on bailed another?)
* I used to have software which let me just click a button to log when someone rebought or busted, but it stopped being supported for Mac and now I just have a simple timer. It also let me export the logs easily to import into a spreadsheet... Anyone got Mac tourney software to recommend that has these features?
