I put together a spreadsheet counting the total chips in play at the beginning and end of different cash game livestreams. Strangely, everyone always starts with different denominations even when they buy in for the same amount, so I had to see the chip count, then make my best guess at the chips on the table as the camera showed each player.

Full Spreadsheet here:

Below is a sample screenshot.

The Million Dollar Game had by far the most chips on the table I suspect because their maximum chip value was 25k with blinds of 1k/2k, while even the Lodge has $25k chips in their 200/400.

Mostly I wanted to see the total chips used to run games of different sizes, both stakes and number of players. You can see the screenshotted game starts with $660k on the table with 576 chips, and ends with almost 5x that amount with $3m on the table, but less than 200 additional chips to accommodate that huge cash infusion (mostly 25k's and 5k's).

Feeling very good about my 800 chip CPC set coming soon which should be sufficient for a couple different levels of stakes. Folks here on PCF had me worried about not having 10,000 $5 chips at the ready!

I wonder how much of it is impacted by people playing stakes that they don't typically play and how the cage gives out chips. Also a local who probably has chips vs an out of town player who has to buy chips mid session.

Like I imagine a Vegas cage or any casino cage will not give you any $1chips if you are buying into a 2/5$ game. The cage might not be as experienced with giving out chips for bigger stakes.

I see it in the lodge game often where an out of town player has to buy chips mid session that often more smaller denomations are brought in by the chip runners.

My biggest game playing 5/5 ($.50/$.50) max buyin 500 ($50) had over 30.000 ($3000) on the table. Standard RFI at the end was 75. We have since *changed to 5/10 max buy in 1000, and I now have a bank of ~1.350.000.

I might have gone overboard, idk.

Whats RFI?

How many chips do you get on the table at the max?

Raise First In. So it was 5, 5, (the blinds) and the first guy to raise would raise to 75 (since many were deep).

Since we usually open with unlimited re-entry tourney 1st hour (650 NOK / $65 per entry), the first thing I get everybody to do is buy cash chips, so this is from ~1500 to 5000. For cash chips they get mostly 100s with 4x25s. If they have >2k they 500s and are asked to use the 500s for the buy-ins and re-entries. They always use the cash chips to buy in to the tournament.

Once cash start, I change 600 high denoms to one stack (20 pcs) of 25s and one stack of 5s. If they rebuy they get two stacks of 25s. I have 4 racks of 25s and at the end of the night I usually have 3 racks of 25s on the table, 1.5 racks of 5s (one stack per starting player usually) and less than a rack of 100s on the table.

In total I have 200x5s, 400x25s, 300x100s, 200x500. The 500s are never used at the cash game and my 1k and 5k chips are sitting mint in their case.

Obviously I don't need that many 25s but it's the working horse of the 5/10 stakes and we some times have 2 tables running. Also people like have big stacks in front of them.
